Change the spark plug and check the air filter next.

wAS it a sudden or gradual loss of power?

The problem came on gradualy over the course of a week and a half. The oil had been changed before I had recived it from the original owner. it has a little over 9k miles on it. The spark plug and air filter are near new.

I"d pull the spark plug and have a look. See how it is burning. Don't know how handy you are, but while the plug is out, do ( or have done) a compression check. You might have a tight valve.

Mine had some similar problems that came on with the high temps we are having here. Scared the hell out of me since it is a new scooter. Putting on a vented gas cap solved my problem. Yours sounds a bit different but you never know.

I am going to change the spark plug. does any body know the proper
gap for the plug? I did also drain the fuel and fill it back with 91 octane.
I do know that it is getting plenty of fuel to the carb. The bike shop i got the plug from said it sounded like the secondary jets were not working
properly. Anyone heard of this.

I was able to get some quality time with my scooter and discovered that i have a very weak spark. Fuel is not an issue. Has anyone had any experience with this problem and does anyone know where i can go to access wiring diagrams and workshop manuels?

Its odd though...If it goes 25MPH, I"d say the coil is sparking...

Some good shops will have a tester where you can run the coil as if it were on the bike. Pull it off and take it in. Find out if its the coil. If its a bad coil thats an easy fix :)

I would still check that compression for a tight valve. Or...if you can, just adjust the valves ( not too hard) and make sure they are in spec.

When it is sparking it will only run about 25, no power and will cut out. At this point it will not start now at all.

I used to work on electronics and I can tell you with great certainty that this is good news because now somebody can troubleshoot it. Troubleshooting intermittent electrics/electronics is very nearly impossible. Now that it's consistently malfunctioning, a tech should be able to use a logical troubleshooting process to run the problem down quickly. Small consolation, I know. Good luck! Please come back let us know what it turns out to be.

P.S. Whenever I see any electrics/electronics exhibiting weird symptoms, I *always* check the battery first. It's easy and solves a lot of weirdo problems fast.

P.P.S. I forgot to add earlier that vinney's valve theory makes great sense to me. If you verify that you have a nice blue spark (first thing to do IMHO), then you can rule out the electrical system and that would be the next place I would look.

Yeah. Now that its not starting. Pull that coil off, and find a shop that can test it for you...A device that "runs" the coil just as if it were on a bike. Make sure they run it for a few minutes as often they will break down as they heat up! :)

Start there and see...Keep us up to date...We"ll keep throwin ideas :P

Found a place in tulsa called metic cycles and had it looked at. The tech found a dirty connection in the electrical system at the stator plug. He said that the connections, although they look good, can develop resistance over time and more so if the bike is parked out side alot. He cleaned them, added some electrical grease and the bike started and ran. I got to ride only one day before the rains came but thought i would let everyone know in case they run into the same thing.

Sure. A common problem with carbed scooters. Partial plugging of the primary or secondary jet can cause hard starting, failure to idle, stalling, or failure to develop full power. Sometimes Seafoam will remedy this but sometimes it is necessary to dasassemble and clean the carb. Usually easiest to replace the jets as they are diffcult to clean and not very expensive. (other things can, of course, cause some similar problems but the carb is usually a good place to start)
