Hi Scooter 'peeps

Anyone have this seat or any experience with it?

I called Scooterworks but couldn't get much info from the friendly person who answered the phone. Then we got cut off so I said 'screw it I am just going to go ask where all things are Buddy.'

So maybe someone has some details about this seat? Looking to put it on a BJ and for it to be at least a couple inches lower then the stock seat. Or one and a half inch, maybe?

I need the info asap as I would like to order and these things seem to go in and out of stock regularly. Thanks!

Well if you are as light as you are short - no problems.

Don't know what has been in place of the material they removed yet if it just has less foam - you may not like it - then again, may be worth a try if the price is right.

Adding some gel in the bottom seems to be the step up over just cutting the foam down.

The description says the seat pan sits lower (robbing a little storage). That sounds like this option would actually retain more foam than the usual shaved seat. My wife rides her Buddy with the standard seat and she is 5'3". Seems like a 5'2" rider would certainly gain some additional reach with this lower seat.

I'm 5' 1.75" and I do just fine with the regular seat, even with my non-heeled boots...
A lower one would be nice though, maybe next year.

My daughter is 5"2.25inches has ridden my Buddy numerous times wearing Combat Boots has had no issues whatsoever....
I suppose it's all how you 'embrace' your 'lack of tallness' or what you're accustomed to. The 'standard' sport bike has a seat height that she'll have no issue with, I do. She HATES the seat height of my Honda Met, as well as a friend's Suzuki GZ 250, which is lower than the Buddy seat height.

I've seen the seat; it's quite nice. Looks good. Can't say how it sits without sitting on one mounted on a Buddy.

It does have "PGO," not "Genuine" across the back.

If you get this, please let me know how you do with it. I've done okay with the stock seat, but being 4'11" , I would like to try this at some point. I'm guessing it would make stop and go traffic much less of a pain in the ass.

I would LOVE to have one of these seats and at 4'10", I think I'd be a good celebrity spokesmodel for it (if anyone from Genuine is reading).

I shaved my own seat down a while back and rode with it for about 6 months. I did appreciate the extra reach it gave me, but ultimately, the lack of padding was too uncomfortable. I've been back on a stock seat for a while now and I really don't have any problems riding. The height only matters when you're stopped, after all. As long as you can get toe down, it's enough to keep the scoot upright. That being said, I'd still like a lower seat if I could get one. I've never seen the one referenced in this thread actually in stock.

will do. it will be ordered just as soon as it is back in stock. gonna call on monday for more info on when that might be, and even put in an order so it can be sent out asap once it is

i will take pics of it and post them, and also some before / after pics of a short rider holding the bike up while on the og seat and then on this one

I'm 5'5", but I can relate a bit. On my MP3 500, I'm on my tip toes when I have to stop. Not something I'd feel comfortable with on a windy day!

I'm 5'3"... can get the ball of my foot firmly on the ground with no heels on my shoe, but that's it.

They really do help with feet and back problems. Also, I can pretty much flat foot in them. For winter I have boots of course, though.

(for the manly men, sketchers makes some decent looking men's casual shoes with that tread, I do believe, as well as sneakers)

ordered the seat and they will send it when back in stock, should be soon. just wanted to update thread to say whoever may be interested, scooterworks says they will be getting 25 seats in the next shipment. one is on back order, two including my order

found these photos of the pgo bubu. looks like the seat on it. maybe its offered or is stock in other markets?

I think the curve in the seat goes with the lines of the scooter very nicely.
Let us know how it feels. For me, I would not want to give up any padding or under seat storage.

I am just under 5"2 and I've been doing OK with the regular seat. I can flatfoot on one side or solidly tiptoe on both sides.
One of the reasons I might want to flatfoot it is because I would like to take my kiddo for a ride. He is pretty big for his age and with over 100 lbs weight in addition we would be near the scooter 300lbs capacity. Also I want to be sure I can hold up the bike with the extra weight and tiptoeing it just would not do, I think. Maybe I should load up the bike with 100 lbs of bricks and see how it would handle with extra weight 1st before I invest money into shaving the seat or buying this one. I do like the idea thoughh...

We just got two of them, one for each Buddy we have, they are awesome, look great, and brought both of us closer to the ground by quite a bit. You will give upo a little storage space, but the trade is well worth it. We got them from the same place you are looking at. Go for it!!

How does the cushioning compare to a stock seat?

I have the lowered seat and it does give me better footing. I can't say it's as cushy as the stock seat but it's not uncomfortable either (you have to give up something somewhere along the line).

It seems as though I stuff just as much of my "essentials" under the seat as I used to with the stock seat, so that hasn't been an issue.

I would say it's definitely worth it --- that inch or two can make a big difference to us shorties.

No difference, if anything, we find the low profile a bit softer, more comfortable, cushiony!

When I ordered a stock Buddy seat for my Blackjack (so I could take a passenger: the BJ seat is not a two-seater), I paid the extra to have it "lowered".

Honestly, I don't notice the difference in reach. I'm 5'4", and I can only tip-toe it with either seat, the original BJ seat, or the "lowered" stock Buddy seat.
The lowered seat is not uncomfortable though, with the less foam, but then again, I don't weigh a whole lot (140lb).

When I have a passenger, I can pretty much flat-foot it though. The extra weight definitely lowers the scooter.

^hmm, i wonder if it was this seat or a stock buddy seat they shaved? did they alter the actual seat pan itself? or w/e its called

i am hoping for the best from this one. i think one of the differences (hoping) between this and a shaved stock seat is this actually is designed differently under the padding. seems the actual seat is lower. this is why it dips into the pet carrier somewhat further. also hopefully it makes a good deal of difference around the inseam

SEAT ARRIVED

seat arrived a couple days ago. posting these somewhat crude pics for comparison. these shots may be the best i can get with it off the scoot. next shots will most likely be on scoot "before and after" shots

i did have it on the BJ briefly and can say its a sexy looking seat. low slung and racy looking. the back end barely rises above the OEM grab bar (the "PGO" is partially blocked by it) and from there forward the seat goes flat for a passenger, and then dips low at a sleek angle for the rider. it looks very cool imo

as you can see the material is perforated. and it arrived with a small indentation as if it had something weighty with a point on it sitting on top. also, the upholstery was a bit bumpy / lumpy in places. probably the padding underneath. no big deal as you can see from the photos. photos are somewhat poor, also. the seat is very clean and black in person

its well constructed, goes on perfectly from what i can see, and looks sexy. oh, and i am told the extra reach to the ground is dramatic, a couple of inches, it seems. i sat on it. at 6'3, not for me!

For what it is worth I use a factory lower seat option on my BMW R1200RT and it works fine for me. The factory lower seats usually just have less foam in them so they may not be best for longer riders. I usually take the BMW out for 3 to 4 hours at a time on weekends and it does fine.

Some riders will use the lower seat for commuting and short trips and then put the standard seat back on for long trips.

Santa got me the low pro I think they droped the ball. The seat is great but it should also be marketed as a racing or sport seat. I just took it for a 15 mile run gain another 2 or 3 mph (more body mass being behind the windshield) and seemed to corner better lower center of gravity

yeah i have not rode it yet as i am not currently where the scoot is. and when i do ride it it will be brief, as i am 6'3

i am going to try to get some pics with it on the scoot later today, however. its pretty sleek imo

i think dealers should carry some Buddy's in the showroom with this seat on. i bet some potential buyers come in from time to time, hop on a Bud, and say "darn, i am not tall enough."

at which time the dealer can say "well step right over here. we have something for that"

reveal the Buddy's with the lo pro seats and bam, make a sale

ok i finally have some pics of the seat on the scoot. pretty sleek and it makes a huge difference to its rider

That seat is really nice looking on the scooter. I'm very tempted to try one out on my Blackjack. I can't flatfoot when stopped unless I'm wearing boots with thick lugged soles and heels. My only hesitation is I'd hate to lose the ability to store my FF helmet under the seat.

On a more practical side, what was the process and tools you use? Did it fit right out of the box or did you have to do anything go the seat to make it fit? I do not have particularly found memories of trying to put the chrome rack on my Buddy. It was a major pain, so I am wondering how it was with the seat replacement?.

i can't say about the FF helmet becaue i haven't had a chance to try it. may do so soon

storm, it goes on easy peasy. its just a matter of taking off the two nuts at the hinge at the front of the seat, sliding the seat off the bolts, and reversing the process to put the new seat on

putting the new on might be a two person deal, however. just a matter of placement and balancing the seat while putting it on. the angle of the hinge makes it sort of awkward

Jhscoot- thanks. One more question to you and others who got the seat: when you ordered was it in stock? Can an item be ordered when not in stock?

i ordered when "not in stock" after calling first. the guy on the phone assured me when they received shipment the seat would go out and my cc / debit card would not be charged until the seat shipped

so i ordered and a few weeks passed. i called to follow up and i was still on the list of orders. about a week later or so the seat arrived without notice

so sure, you can order one and rest assured you get it. i suppose if you want to make perfectly certain of your order being processed call and ask / order like i did. seems a straight up process
