This came up in a recent thread and has been mentioned here before, but since we have so many Dr. Pulley slider adherents, I thought it worth mentioning in GD.
The manufacturer and distributors of Dr. Pulley sliders issued warnings some time ago about counterfeits being sold in eBay and online. If you buy these, be sure to get them from a reputable retailer (Scooterworks, Scooterwest, etc.) or dealer who is getting them from the distributor.
The licensed distributors in the US:
www.buggypartsnw.com
www.g-forcepowersports.com
www.partsforscooters.com
In addition, a Dr.Pulley rep posted on ModernVespa that their former US distributor, MRP, was selling counterfeits. I won't wade into that possible legal morass, but buyers should be conscious of where their sliders are coming from. ("D-Sliders" as they're now called, on MRP's site.)
The videos in the linked post above show that the fakes heat up quite a bit in much less time than the real thing. Dr. Pulley says that the fakes aren't "self-lubricated" as theirs are and are made from abrasive materials that will damage the variator. Counterfeits are reportedly more orange in color than the putty-colored authentic sliders.
There may be other counterfeits out there, even ones bearing the Dr. Pulley brand or logo. Buy smart!
