Check your bolts....

Post by KABarash »

Something I didn't do after my dealer replaced my rear tire in June!

We all know the muffler has to be removed to replace the rear tire, right? Well, the other day I noticed the sound of the bike somewhat off, and it has been ever since the work was done in June but this was a 'different' off. So while checking over 'Simon' to see what was ailing him I noticed my exhaust was cracked through right at the mouth of the expansion chamber. Upon closer inspection I notice the TOP bolt of the muffler bracket missing.... :?
I ride right to my guy (2 miles away) He says, "yep, you got a problem here, the bolt isn't missing, it's broken"
I look closely at it, IT'S BEEN BROKEN FOR A WHILE......
He sheepishly looks at me and agrees, his 'helper' broke the bolt removing the muffler in June....
NOW I gotta either replace the whole damned exhaust or just have it fixed. I CAN'T afford the Prima exhaust.... :(
I feel this is on him anyway......

I don't get it. You mean he admitted that his helper broke the bolt 4 months ago and then he let you ride away after the "service" without informing you or rectifying the issue? He had knowledge of this at the time?

Sounds like they should be replacing it for you since they broke the bolt. Or at minimum doing it labor free and giving you an exceptionally great deal on the parts.

He admitted it to me yesterday after 'conferring' with said (now former) helper......

Sounds to me like he wants just to re-weld it as he said the 'factory' welds looked like crap in the first place.........
I hope it doesn't look like crap(ier) when he's done!
