Angels, MSF, and the Best Scooter
Last night on the way home I was traveling about 45mph (on my HD200) behind a pickup truck, just as I passed the on-ramp for the freeway, the truck passed over some 4x4 fence post that was in the middle of the lane, I could not avoid it. I saw it and immediately the MSF training class paid off, I lifted off my seat as the front tire hit the wood, I rolled over the first piece, then the rear lifted up. I landed hard but upright. There's just no way to explain why I didn't go down other than angels.
My front rim was damaged and my tire was flat. I suspect that there's damage to my forks too. My rear rim was slightly damaged but held air I was able to pull into the Jack-In-The-Box a few hundred feet up. Unfortunately, the HD is un-driveable for now.
If I was on any other of my scooters, I would probably doing this from a hospital bed with a totally different story.

WOW!!! Glad you're OK. Sorry your scooter isn't.
Other than being hit by another vehicle, that's my biggest fear - hitting something big in the road.
My friend broke his left foot on unknown road debris riding home after work one night on the highway. He didn't see it because of the car ahead of him and he hit something big with his foot as he swerved to avoid it. It nearly took his foot off and destroyed parts of his Ducati. He was VERY lucky. If he had hit it straight on doing 75 at 2am, he would have been toast.
It's one big reason I try to not ride at night.

Dang! Good job staying upright! Scary stuff! I totally remember the MSF riding over 2x4's drill—rolling on the throttle to lighten the front end etc. It has served me well on many an occasion. Thankfully though, none have been quite so hairy as yours!
Hope the scooter repairs are minimal and that insurance covers it all for you.

It appears that Alliance does not have the parts readily available. Either they have to cannibalize them off a 2012 HD200 or they have to order them in from either Canada or Taiwan.
Either way, it's going to be expensive. The insurance company may totaled it.

Fun little side story: the last big electronic item I purchased was a TV from Best Buy several years ago, anywhere from 06-08. I got an extended warranty on it, like I always do with large electronics. NO JOKE, while reading the fine print of it, and I quote, "random acts of god" were specifcally not covered under the extended PRP.Drum Pro wrote:I wouldn't put it past an insurance company to use that one!

PCBikeDude: I'm really sorry to hear about your bike- that stinks a lot.

I think that I've decided what to do in case the HD200 is totaled. I'm going to get back to riding a Buddy and my wife will get the Kymco Like that she has been drooling over.
Luna P, I'm just pissed at myself for letting it happen. If I had 1 more car length in front of me. But then someone would cut me off and then I would have a wood debris problem again.

Got the word officially....she's gone, totaled.
I'm just waiting to hear how much I will get.
The comment that I got from both Cool Scooters and GEICO after they both inspected it was, "How were you able to stay upright?"
1. Angel in my jacket pocket, 2. Good training (MSF), 3. Good-safe scooter.
Just in case anyone was wondering, yes, I got right back up on 2 wheels the very next day and rode my Symba to work.
Next question, what am I going to replace it with?
