Good deal on Frogg Togg Road Toads
Hunting around for rain gear for the 5-day a week scooter commute I begin next week, I found a great deal on Frogg Togg Road Toads. $42.95 (usually about $70). PLUS if you are a first time customer you can get an additional 20% off which brings the price down to $35 plus shipping. Awesome price for Road Toads.

Sorry Ladies, it's a men's suit. Not fair to you, I know. Maybe the small will fit?

This is nice gear. Bought this suit earlier in the summer for the same deal.
It's worked out really well. Ridden at least few downpours and it's kept me nice and dry. It breathes, so even on a hot day it's not a sauna like you would have in a PVC type of rain suit.
As a bonus, it's good in cool dry weather for extra wind protection when riding.
I wear a men's small, and the jacket fits nicely over my motorcycle jackets. The pants are zippered on the bottom so it fits easily over boots or shoes. The suit is not form-fitting so I don't see why a woman couldn't wear it. The pants have an elastic gather at the bottom, so even if they're longer than your inseam it's not a problem.

It's a little funny maybe, but during the summer (with my rain gear on) I found it strangely pleasant to be riding in the rain. Have to go slower of course, and leave more room for stopping, but it became an OK experience nonetheless.Skootz Kabootz wrote:I have to say, I am really looking forward to using mine. I'd say that is a sign of good rain gear!HowHH wrote:It's a little funny maybe, but during the summer (with my rain gear on) I found it strangely pleasant to be riding in the rain. I've gotta say, I bought a set of Frogg Toggs a couple of years ago when I was still trying to put together my gear and for me they were ridiculously large. I just couldn't bring myself to wear them in public, they were so huge. Now granted, I am ridiculously smallHowHH wrote:I wear a men's small, and the jacket fits nicely over my motorcycle jackets. Motorcyclegear.com (a great place for really detailed info on gear) says that Frogg Toggs fit large and that if one is in between sizes to definitely go for the smaller size. Plus, Frogg Toggs are built to go over riding gear. So the large size will be measured to fit over large riding gear etc.pdxrita wrote:I've gotta say, I bought a set of Frogg Toggs a couple of years ago when I was still trying to put together my gear and for me they were ridiculously large. Certainly. I understood that and ordered the smallest set available; I think they were XS. I tried them on over my clothes, and they were just humongous. How can I explain - something like a clown suit, but even bigger?Skootz Kabootz wrote:Motorcyclegear.com (a great place for really detailed info on gear) says that Frogg Toggs fit large and that if one is in between sizes to definitely go for the smaller size. Well I'm definitely crossing my fingers I have better luck with the sizing! I should know soon as the order has shipped already. Quite impressive. This is my first time buying from Sierra Trading Co. I ordered at 1am this morning and by 6:30 am it had shipped! That's pretty dang fast in my books!
I also ordered some TourMaster deluxe boot rain-covers and FirstGear rubber rain gloves from Motorcycle Superstore. Those shipped today too. So come Monday I am going to be ready for a total deluge! Bring it!

Skootz, I was thinking you might have rain your first day of commuting, but the forecast has taken a swing in your favor!
I'd love to see the Toggs firsthand. Though many people love/recommend them, I've always been a bit dubious about their durability.

Though many people love/recommend them, I've always been a bit dubious about their durability.Turns out my start date got pushed to Wednesday due to someone being out of town so I dodged it. My Frogg Toggs are scheduled arrive Monday. I am curious to see them to. The majority of reviews I saw are quite positive. I think if one was a hard core cross country adventure rider you would want something hardier. But for LA (and for $35) I'm thinking (hoping) these will be ample. When I am rolling in do re mi I might invest in more high end rain gear. We shall see.

(I'm still a maybe. I'm having a post vacation hangover. Not from all the fine wine but from not being here, in my office, with a mass of emails and projects in mid-air, etc.)

I'm planning on going to the Sidecar Rally part of the ride on Sunday if the rain holds off. Back home to work after that.ericalm wrote:…And now no excuse not to ride with us on Sunday!Skootz Kabootz wrote:I thought I was going to have rain on day one too! [Sorry for the double post but there are two threads where this should be]
My Frogg Toggs arrived today and I have to say they are sooooooo much better than I was expecting! Nowhere near as flimsy as I imagined they would be. Really pretty substantial for an urban rain suit. If they were any thicker they could become cumbersome. That said, if I was doing adventure riding or lived in Seattle or some where very, very rainy I might want to invest in a more heavy duty suit.
The fit is spot on. If I had not read threads where people talk about the fit being large I would never know there was an issue. These fit me perfectly. I am 6'1", 200lbs (of rock solid muscle...
) and generally wear a L or XL [Edit to add: I was in between sizes so ordered the smaller L]. The Frogg Toggs fit over my leather riding jacket like they are made to measure. But I would not want the jacket any smaller. The pants are absolutely perfect. I put them over jeans today and they were great. They fit over my lined armored riding pant perfectly too. The only thing that perhaps might prove an issue (I won't know until I've worn them in the rain) are the pass through front pockets. They are great because you can access your pants underneath, but I wonder if moisture could get in there. For now I will assume not becuse after all, this is a rain suit made by a company that only makes rain suits and one would assume they have thought of this.
The attached hood is great and has two different adjustable pulls to snug it nicely around the face. What I love is that it is attached at the back so you can put it under your helmet and no moisture will drip down your neck.
I got the orange color and it is pretty cool. Not too neon or highway construction ugly.
Rain is scheduled for Friday so that will be the first live test. If they do their job I will likely order a second set because at $35, this really can't be beat.

Thanks for the heads up, mine should be here today.
I went with a 2XL - I'm 6' 3" 230, but I feel the cold in Oregon and layer up, so hopefully won't be an issue for the next week. On the other hand, if anyone see's an inflatable Orange topped Michellin man riding in Florida in two weeks, then you will know I probably over did it!

I must admit i'm glad I went with the 2XL, I'm no ape by any means, but the arms are probably about right on the 2XL, and I would worry the XL would have been a bit shorter.
The body is a bit "Stay-Puft" marshmallow man, but it does not look like it will turn into a wind sock at high speed!
The Pants are perfect, nice length, waist is generous enough to carry on drinking the Pyramid Apricot Weizens, without to much worry of them getting tight
All in all a great buy, very pleased, nicely constructed rain gear. I'm guessing they will be used in the rain over the next few days, so will let you know how water tight they are!

Well. not much rain to speak of today. It did sprinkle a little bit so I wore the jacket home. Totally comfortable, fit perfect, no ballooning whatsoever, and the reflective piping is great, really visible.
It is supposed to rain tomorrow. If I'm up for it I may go out for a ride just to test out the gear.

I've only worn my jacket the one time so far, but it seemed great to me. I was wearing my leather jacket underneath and still felt an improvement in wind blockage and warmth. You wouldn't wear the Frogg Toggs with out your usual riding jacket underneath so they will at worst be equivalent in warmth to your usual riding jacket but undoubtably be better still. I read that some people do use them as wind breakers but they by design they do have air flow enough just to breath while keeping you dry.

Took my first ride in the rain today. It was about a 45 minute, 15 mile commute with maybe 4-5 miles at 55mph a fairly heavy, steady rain.
I have to say I am very pleased. I arrived at work bone dry. In addition to wearing my Road Toads over my regular riding gear (armored jacket and pants) I was also was wearing waterproof boot covers and rubber rain gloves. I had the Road Toads hood opened up and wore it under my helmet.
The only issue I had, if any, is that I was too hot! I will be removing my jacket liner for the ride home.
It's suppose to continue raining tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully I will remain impressed.
