Do I Need a Battery Tender?

I've read the forum facts about batteries and how to use a battery tender, but my question is do I need one?

I plan to ride my scooter through the winter (unless there's ice on the roads). If I take it out once a week, do I need a tender? How long should I go on a run if I'm riding just to keep the battery up and ok? How long is too long to leave it in the garage without running it?

Sorry for all the questions. I've searched for the answers. If I just missed the thread, please point me in the right direction. :) Thanks!

Well…

The length of your run to keep the battery charged is hard to say. It all depends on RPMs, load, etc. and batteries are all a little different after they've been used for a while.

If you start to run your battery down, you'll notice you're having trouble starting. That's when you know you need one. :)

You should practice kickstarting, too, just in case!

Thanks. I teach math & like to have "rules" for how to do things. It's daunting that there's no ready formula for this...
