Prima topcase latches breaking

Post by JettaKnight »

I've now had two of the latches on my Prima bag break. Anyone else have this problem? Fortunately I have a spare for today's broken latch but that's the last one.

Prima latch

Post by potamus »

I just had a latch break on my Prima bag! It just fell apart! No stress on it or anything! I am checking with my scooter shop to see if it has some kind of warranty - mine is only 2 months old. How did you fix yours?

I had a latch break last month.

I contacted Scooterworks to see if just the latch could be replaced, but they exchanged the whole bag.

Looks like Prima's got a problem with these.

One latch on my first bag was damaged and I kept the other one when I crashed and totaled the bag (not the bike). It's pretty easy to unbuckle the broken part but I'm going to hate dealing with this every thousand miles.

I know someone who has a busted latch on their Prima softbody topcase, too. Dang.

The shop replaced the whole bag for me and so far, it's held up. We'll see!

A latch on bag number two broke this week.

Scooterworks replaced the last bag and has yet to return my complaint email on this bag.

I really like how this bag looks, but I'm beyond frustrated now.

Does anyone know if there is a company making a real leather case? I've googled some and have come up with nothing.

I've had no latch issues with my very similar S/X bag.

Yes. Vespa makes one. It's very expensive.

I wonder if the SX Appeal cases of the same design also have these problems?

I have the S/X bag. No latch problems whatsoever. The bag itself has seen better days, it sags on either side the rack considerably (I'd recommend a new installation having some sort of reinforcement underneath the whole length or placed in the base inside). The fabric is frayed in several places and a seam is ripping out on one side.

To be fair, this bag gets a lot of use, stays on the bike 24/7, and has been overstuffed and over-weighted as a matter of course. It has performed very well, but shows it. It is 7 months old now and won't last a full year. I'm hoping to get a GIVI hard case from Santa.

There are a number of companies which make similar bags for motorcycles either in leather or nylon. The styling may not be quite as good and you'll have to settle for black, but there are options.

I just got off the phone with Scooterworks and was told that they may have a bag of replacement latches laying around, of which they'll send me two.

This must be a new development, since I had to return the whole bag the last time.

I'll post again when I actually have them in hand and on the bag.

Wow I am not the only one! One of latches just broke and Scooterworks said send it back. I love this bag not as crazy about the s/x one.

Just had two of my latches break while I was reattaching the bag to my rear rack. In addition to the "bag sag" issue, my fondness for the Prima Bag is starting to diminish.
