Where is my engine number?

Post by Hwarang »

Hello,

I am selling on of my scooties (Buddy 125), and Minnesota requires you to record the engine number on the title at the time of sale. I cannot find it for the life of me. To be precise, I think I am looking for a unique serial number, not a model number (I have located the C2-blabla number).

I've searched around this forum and the interwebs, and looked all over the scoot, but am coming up short (hehe and it's dark outside).

I did find this thread, but it references what I think is the engine model number, not the engine serial number. topic10169.html

Or is that it? It doesn't seem right.

Thanks!

No, the engine number is a unique serial number usually stamped on the engine case in metal. It is used in combination with the VIN to deter theft. Often times, bikes are parted out. The state can catch "bad guys" when they tr to sell a bike with a Vin/Engine# mismatch. On motorcycles it's very easy to spot because most of the engine is exposed. It is required to record this during title transfers between individual parties.

Shoot off a quick email to Genuine; they may be able to respond before someone can post the right answer.

Well, I tried calling them and my local shop but they were closed because it's Monday. Email sent, it's a good idea.

I guess, I can always let the buyer figure this out but it was such a hassle, I wanted to make it easy for her.

The engine number is engraved on the back, right near the gear-oil filler. See the photo on page 6 of the manual - http://www.modernbuddy.com/pdf/Genuine_ ... 25-150.pdf . Looks like the number is below the C2 designation.
