I took my ABATE class this weekend on the provided Nighthawk 250cc motorcycles. There's a lot to get used to after having only a few hand controls, but I learned a lot and it was great fun. I'll probably take some of their more advanced courses when I can and very much recommend them.

Congrats Skully... I hope you get a good discount for insurance! Which advanced classes do you think you would take? I'm considering heading back for a weekend to take the basic rider course part 2, or perhaps the street rider course, mainly to correct any bad habits I may have picked up along the way

Thanks Socal!
I will get a nice discount, and hopefully better rates by switching to another company on the 11th when my insurance is up.
I was thinking of the intermediate and accident management courses. I thought all that might come in handy on group rides.

I rode motorcycles for 20+ years and took an MSF class last year and learned LOADS from those guys! Good on ya for taking the class!

Ok - so I have just signed up for our state mandated MSF course and am looking forward to the weekend. Let's see August 2009... sounds like 29 months late!

Congrat. One of the best classes all scooter riders should take.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, a great follow up to the MSF course is David Hough's "
Proficient Motorcycling". A must for any rider's library.

I know this walks a very thin line, but...
I find it odd that the most organized opponent of helmet laws in the US runs the standard motorcycle safety class in one of the 50 states.

we discussed that in class. The instructor said "I will always wear a helmet on a bike and a seat belt in the car. however, I should do this of my own free will, and not made to do it. If I want to increase my risk many times over, that's my right!"
And I can't disagree. Too often it seems little things are taken away to save us from ourselves, only to happen anyway.
Congratulations!
