Kickstart problem

Post by Chilly »

To kickstart I usually push down lightly until I get resistance then let it back up, then go for it. Sometimes if i don't do this and just push down quick it will not get any resistance all the way to the bottom and make a horrible noise. Is this normal? Today in a big hurry I did this and now it seems a little 'sticky'. When I push down lightly it sometimes wants to stay partially down instead of quickly going to the top. With a little tap it returns easily. Still works no problem but what's the deal here. Not going to have time until the weekend to take off the transmission case and look. Any ideas? It did rain buckets last 2 days so I'm guessing some lube. But still wondering why it just flys through with no resistance sometimes(only when no initial push and release back to top).

EDIT: Haven't looked inside but after looking at parts diagram it is clearly a problem with the spring and gear assembly. Ordering the parts, any tips on install are welcome.

EDIT#2: No new parts needed, gears and spring were crudded up. Cleaned out entire transmission cover, all gears and springs with brake cleaner then sprayed with wd-40, cleaned up excess lube very well and reassembled. Works like new :D
