"The man who brought the world Lemonheads and Atomic Fire Balls routinely serenaded the restaurants where he dined and held mandatory family dinners every Sunday, said his son, Salvatore Ferrara.

Nello Ferrara died Friday at his home in the Chicago suburb of River Forest surrounded by his family. He was 93."

I wonder how many Fireball Stellas there are in the Chicago area. Sure would be an awesome send-off to have a parade of 'em.

To live your life well, make others happy, and die at an advanced age surrounded by your family (excluding in-laws) - we should all be so lucky.

Amen, brothers. RIP, Mr. Ferrara.

(Still working my way through a 25 lb. box of Atomic Fireballs that my bride bought me several Valentine's Days ago. Imagine my delight when I relapsed on the scooter bug years later to see that my favorite candy had been immortalized in a limited-edition Stella. In fact, I think I'll have one now.)

Not enough for a parade.

I do know that Atomic Fireball #1 is still in its crate in Chicago!

don't know about chicago, but there are at least 4.5 of them here in Minneapolis.

the .5 is a fireball with all the decals taken off, because there were too many fireballs in the area.

Also, I went to school with 2 of his grandchildren. They used to bring lots of goodies for the teachers and administration. Which would trickle down to us other students. :-D

Just saw lemonheads in wally-mart last night. Brought a box home for the kids and told them a little background story about the candy that I learned.
