The deadlights are the original turn signal lights on the front of your cowling. They don't meet US DOT requirements, so the Buddy's have aftermarket turn signals attached to the handlebars. The deadlights have been disconnected, but you can reactivate them with a simple kit (search for Voodoo parts).

What he said above. I think the best use for them is to use Lil Buddy's (Voodoo Scooter Parts) BoB combo adapter. It lights them up as running lights, and also turn-signals at the same time.

Of course, you will have to replace the stock lights with LEDs if you do that, or you will kill your battery in no time at all. I recommend these (the 1156 version):

Just a note on the deadlights, I put in white LEDs in mine and wired them for blinkers, however, to be blinkers in Texas (which I know You're in PA) they have to be amber. So check to see if your state allows blinkers in different color if you are of a mind to do so.

Wait, aren't the dead lights for illuminating zombies during the apocalypse?
