Where to buy replacement starter?

The stock starter is $150, is this my only choice? Hate to pay 150 for a part that has failed on me already as I'd assume the new one won't be any better. Wouldn't mind paying that much or more for a quality replacement. The ncy replacement starter does NOT fit as I found out first hand. Is getting the stock one repaired a possibilty? By myself or a pro? I do have a alternator/starter mechanic shop nearby.
