Modern Buddy

I am looking for a coffee mug that will stay sealed during the ride and keep my coffee reasonably warm. Any suggestions? The mug will be roling around in front storage space....

I have a Klean Kanteen water bottle that is very durable. A friend of mine had the insulated version and spoke very highly of its durability and insulation, saying it has kept coffee hot for most of a day.

I have one that's similar to this. Mine's a few years old, so I think this is the latest version of the same mug. It's very leak resistant. I carry it in my topcase strapped to the side of my lunch bag, but you could put it in the open compartment with the handle hooked over the edge to stabalize it. As for temperature control, it's not as good as I would hope, but it's pretty good. I put some hot water in it for a few minutes before I put coffee in and that helps a bit. I drink my coffee within about 30 minutes of getting into the office and it keeps it hot enough for that. But if you really want something absolutely leak proof and excellent at keeping your coffee hot, there's nothing like a good old fashioned steel thermos.

I second this one! I've got that exact mug as well as an older Trudeau style with a handle. They've never slipped from the front compartment if I keep the handle over the edge.

They also have a twist release on the seal - a quarter turn clockwise lowers the interior rubber gasket away from the drinking slots another quarter turn re-seals it - and that makes it easy to handle with gloves when you want to be sure it's packed back away before the light changes to green.

I have this Thermos Nissan. Love the design, trust it enough that I throw it in my duffle bag full of coffee and have never had any problems.

A Gen-U-Bin with a proper cup holder would mitigate the roll-around.

It comes with an 'infuser screen' which is silly because you don't leave loose tea in the water for more than a few minutes, whereas it takes A LONG, LONG TIME for the water to cool down enough to be not scalding (even with the lid off!).

They changed the model since my first one - it's a little wider and the top doesn't screw as much before it's fully closed, but it still performs outstandingly.

I am about 60% sure I've put it in the bin before (usually just toss in bag), but it's late and it's been a long couple of weeks. As it's a taller, thinner profile than most mugs, you might want to check and see if it's a good fit.

ps: I know you mentioned coffee, but in case you switch it up sometimes, or if anyone who is a tea enthusiast is reading: I tried the zojirushi stainless mug (http://www.zojirushi.com/products/smkhe), and even though it claims to be a wide mouth, it will not fit a standard mug-size tea infuser (ie bodum).

I have this one. I liked it so much, I bought 4 more so I'd have one for work, one for my husband, and a few for home so there'd even be some for company when they come over.

If there's nothing holding it up, it will fall over in the Buddy's bin, but it won't spill.

Awesome for cold things as well. The lid may get cool, but the exterior stays room temperature and does NOT sweat.

In my words:

It does not keep coffee piping hot for hours, but definitely hotter a lot longer than any other travel mug I have ever used.

One of my favorite things about this mug is that you can shake it violently and it won't spill. I take Taster's Choice with me to work because I don't care for the coffee they provide. So I put coffee, creamer, sweetener, and boiling hot water in there, put the lid on, and shake it really hard. Nothing spills! I then have to give the lid a quick push on the release button to "burp" it when done shaking (to release any pressure build-up), or the first time I sip it could spit some out at me, but if I burp it first, that doesn't happen.

PROS:
•Keeps stuff hotter much longer; only the lid feels ANY warmth (main part of exterior stays room temperature, no matter how hot the interior liquid is)
•If it falls over, it will not spill
•Very easy to drink from
•Very attractive, and comes in several colors
•Shake things up (even violently) and it wil not spill.
•Cold things stay cold a long time.
•When cold liquid is in there, the container doesn't sweat

CONS:
•If it's too hot to swallow something when you first put it in there, you have to be super careful when you sip it as it stays hot SOOO long (I usually take the lid off each time I want to sip from it for the first 15 minutes or so).
•For some reason they did not put a rubber ring on the bottom, so it isn't slide proof.
•If you have it in a backback it CAN spill (if items press hard enough on the side piece you would push with your thumb to drink).

NEUTRAL: Price. It's not cheap, but I think it's a fair price considering how good the mug is.

I've had many mugs over the years, my favorite cost me about $6-8 at the local 'Turkey Hill Store' Great thing about it was at the time, a re-fill at a 'Turkey Store' would then only be fifty cents....
I still rotate (one is invariably left behind somewhere to be retrieved later) two of them 8 or 9 years old AND they still keep my coffee hot!!
My newest, a 'COPCO' brand (probably bought at K-mart) has a great seal, fits and WON'T roll about in the 'knee bin' just don't keep my coffee hot enough by the end of my 40minuite commute..... (My cheapie old 'Turkey' mugs don't really have a positive seal, never did, sip&go style leave coffee drips on the scoot, making me think maybe I should paint the scoot 'Coffee brown' )
By the way, I don't think any mug of decent design would actually roll in the bin, hook style handle or not, place it in, I like the left side for some reason, handle towards the front of the scoot, back of the bin, it sort of wedges it self there.
I do like the new mug michelle_7728 recommends, it may be pricey, but I'd bet there's more expensive out there too....

I've used this one for over a year in my car and with my scoot; *nothing* gets out of it until you hit the button.

The downside is price, but it works better than anything I've found. Mine came from Target and was marked down at one point to $12. I need to find another at that price since my wife keeps using it. She willingly puts it in her purse and you can't argue against that kind of confidence.

Thank you all for great suggestions! I liked Contiguous (sp?) And Nissan thermos. The thermos has a handle which can hook over the rim lg the storage compartment. This might work. I like Gen-u-bin but not sure I want close off the compartment, .....Decisions. Decisions......
