Modern Buddy

Oh happy day! I finally finished putting my scooter back together, adjusted the valves, replaced all fulids/filter, plug and put a real shine on the thing.

I do have 2 issues. First, whenever I turn the blinkers on it buzzes from the indicator switch and the lights stay on, they do not blink. I unhooked and re-hooked all the electrical connections and that did nothing. All the lights work, just the blinkers are staying lit and the switch is making a buzz, not a tick of any kind as it should. I'm not running on a batter currently, but I don't know where that would make a difference. Suggestions, as all bulbs work and are bright?

Second, after adjusting the valves and replacing all the fluids and plug I let it idle for 20-25 minutes before attempting to ride it. I cannot break 40mph! I got it to 38 on the speedo on a flat surface, around 30-35 uphill. Now I am 245lbs and living in Denver, would it effect the speed that much? When I was in Lexington, KY I was almost 280lbs and could get the scooter up over 50. I cleaned the carb out, it has fresh gas, 0 hesitation off the line and it's not acting like its starving for fuel/running rich. It does only have 535 miles, is it still being broken in? I have tried to baby the thing never really going above 3/4 throttle and only hitting 50 a couple times right before dissembling it. It would totally suck if I can't go faster without major work, then again, it is a 125!

Sounds like a busted relay.

If you can't figure it out, take it over ti Sportique and powwow with them a bit. I found if you deal with them fairly they tend to the same.

yes, still being broke in. that will be another 1000 miles or so. You're a mile high now and your Kentucky jet will not be any good that high. Which way you need to go, I do not know so a quick call to Sportique will help.

When I take my sea level buddy up to 4K feet, I loose about 10mph, if I go higher even more. at 10k, I was full throttle at 30mph.

so make sure that's adjusted accordingly to your new altitude.

I have to look at the wiring diagram to be sure, but IIRC some components, specifically turn signals and maybe the horn, were powered off the battery. Running the scoot without one, as you say you're doing, might make an incomplete circuit, even with a good stator and charging circuit. The buzzing is typical of an underpowered circuit, such as might happen with a floating ground. Hook up the battery, even if it's dead, and see if something changes.

Some scoots (oldies) can run completely in the absence of a battery, but I don't think the Buddy is one of them.

So if we come visit you will we gain 10mph and have it burst into flames for running so rich ?

But yes, we are starved up here. They have to run a lot different.

The local shop has sold a few 170's and they say the stock difference is quite a bit due to the efi.

EFI shouldn't be bogged down by altitude. yeah, your scooter would run different at sea level if you don't re-jet. Burst into flames? not sure

My only experience from sea level to 10k ft. anything over 4k, I lose power with my sea level jet

I had a chat with a worker at the Englewood Sportique some time back, was told they don't replace the jet because they run a bit rich at sea level. I don't know if that is true, I will keep an eye on the plug to see if it's running lean and adjust accordingly.

I will hook a battery up and see if that makes a difference with the indicator. I shouldn't be running it totally off the strator anyhow.
