Man down!

Just a little bit ago I was coming home, winding through the neighborhood.

A forest green SUV of some kind darted out of the alley between streets and caused me to eat it.

I have a small scuff on the knee and those cheap jeans are no longer work jeans. Fortunately I would guess I was going less than 10mph.

The cowling right around the headlight, both top and bottom, are mangled in the front and the headlight is askew. A very minor scuff on the front wheel fender, but not really worried about that (it's a battlescar). I also have a scrape on the helmet. I don't think it's worthless but I'll probably replace it to be safe.

The driver did not stop and I was unable to get a model or plate, so I may be stuck with a personal claim if it's worth it.

the gloves and corazzo jacket I JUST GOT are fine. full review coming.

Glad the bike is 'operational' as we have a ride tomorrow. I will wear my sliders :P.

Anyone know how expensive the plastics are? if they're not too bad maybe I'd just replace them and bribe the local shop to align the headlight.

Yuck. Sorry to hear that, but glad you are fine. Definitely replace the helmet, the integrity is severely damaged at this point. It is better than nothing, but not nearly as good as new.

Scooter lounge has body parts, with prices listed. They are not terrible,

Glad to hear you are okay. It's a good thing the force was with Yoda and you so that neither of you were damaged too bad. Good luck with the repairs!

we'll see what it comes to. I do have decent insurance, but the parts are @ $120 and another couple bones for a helmet, may or may not be worth it, esp. if they want a lot of downtime at the shop.

anyway, thanks for the well wishes and links!

 Whew, close call! Glad you are okay!!

Check to make sure nobody's parting out an Italia in the for sale section.

D-bags who pull out in front of people are now on the top of my shit list

Hope it doesn't end up too expensive for you.

Sorry to hear about this but glad you're relatively okay.

If you don't mind, we'd appreciate a post to our Who's Crashed? thread, which has proven very helpful for members.

Eric, funny you should say that because I was thinking about it for sure.

Full reviews if gear coming soon too.

Was there contact.

No or I think I would have clung to the back. I actually lowsided to avoid it. Even though it would have totally been their fault, I'm not sure that I could prove that they were the offender. No one offered up witness, but maybe if there had been impact they would have.

I'd rather not have to fight to get their car and the scoot paid for. Bergerbot is the main sales guy at my shop, and he's been oggling a laptop I've wanted to sell. Perhaps an accord can be reached for the repair and I can see if insurance will do the helmet.

kind of sounds like an unfortunate mishap. no contact, nothing seems malicious about it. no injuries, really. thats good

chalk it up to experience and ride on, i say. but plz be careful and safe :)

Oh man, glad you're ok, I'm sure I'll see it tomorrow. Keep scooting

Glad you are relatively ok and so is the scooter. The headlight ring and headlight assembly in general are notorious for getting messed up in crashes. I posted a wanted post in the For Sale area here and got some slightly used replacement parts for less than new. But my scooter wasn't as new as yours when I went down so I didn't mind that the parts were a bit used. I left quite a few of the battle scars on mine as well. I'll show you sometime.

If the used route doesn't work I also vouch for Scooter Lounge Online.

Heh.

Well, it will not stop me from riding tomorrow. I'll ask for opinions from the local shop and ride proudly with scars. I'll also wear even more gear.

My helmet was checked by a long term friend, and he said for now it's fine, but it was made in '05 so it's nearly time to replace it. Sucks as I like it and it's only a few months out of box, but better safe than sorry. even better if I can get the insurance to help out.

Yoda is the first vehicle I ever bought brand new from the floor, so I think that's what stings more.

however, I refuse to let it shake my confidence and instead vow to just be more attentive. Like Luna, it happened close to home (2 blocks! AAAAGH!). We all tend to zone out and go through 'daily routine" there.

full write ups coming, but the brand new Corazzo jacket is still pristine, my gloves are fine, my helmet has a microscopic scuff,, and the cowl protectors did their job with nary a complaint. the mirrors have some scratches at the elbows but those are backordered from Genuine currently, and hte damage is not major.

Overall it's good experience. I am not shaken, and my wife is still fine with me riding tomorrow.

Now to get it all cleaned up!

Sorry to hear that, but glad to know you are okay. You'll probably feel stiff in places you don't realize tomorrow. :(

Actually I went dancing with the wife last night. More like 'shuffling' but that's normal for me :P.

I brew up some liniments that I use for martial arts and sports injuries, so thanks to copious amounts of that the bruise on my foot is just stiff. I can't put it on the knee yet since the skin is broken, but only a little.

Speaking of which I need to see if Luna wants some. Also taking a batch to Bergerbot for some bruises he sustained when the throttle on a shop bike stuck open.

Funky smelling herbs for everyone!

Good news is that the parts are simple. The headlight is expensive! But the local shop got me a good enough deal on the parts that everything should be fine within a couple weeks. Parts were $150.

I'll talk with the insurance and see if it's worth it. Not sure if they cover the helmet, but no one seems to think that it's been compromised. Of course if I read it right, it was made in '05, so late this year I'll get a new one anyway.

Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't your repairs & helmet be covered by your "uninsured motorist" coverage?

Insurance adjuster will call me on monday. I'll ask about the helmet. The repairs would take time possibly to work through, but we'll see.

$150 in parts wouldn't come close to hitting my deductible. My insurance company does have a helmet replacement policy, which is pretty nice.

Glad to hear you're okay; sounds like you're zen in getting back on the scoot and showing those schmucks the street belongs to you too!

We talked about this earlier, but again, I'm glad you're okay!
Good to hear the parts weren't terribly expensive, you'll have Yoda looking like new again in no time! :D
