Rim Job (hahahaha)

So, I live 2 blocks from the Pacific Ocean with no garage. Suffice to say, your 2009 Buddy likely is prettier than mine. I have rust in crevices I'll NEVER get out.

I hauled to the LA appreciation ride with 2 brand new buddies one that wasn't that old. My black panels look more gray. the salt is caking on my handlebars. I think the newbies were a little scared by what they saw: their bikes wouldn't be so sparkly in 3 years.

But the ONE bit I couldn't really polish the rust *mostly* off of was the rims. I was all ready to buy new rims out of shear embarassment of how old my scooter looked when my mechanic said it was nothing a little sanding and spraypaint wouldn't fix. I was getting the Heindenau's put on so he just painted my front rim before he swapped them out:

I wish I had the "before" shot as this is BEAUTIFUL! I'm getting the big NCY brake put on Saturday so he painted the brake, too, and then sanded it for the duration.

I don't know how long the spray paint will last but I'm stoked my front tire doesn't look so sad anymore :)

Apart from your blatant attempt at a double entendre citation, it’s a nice rim job. You can now show up for any group ride without shame.

Just goes to show that a little elbow grease and rattle can paint go a long way. My Blackjack’s rims got scratched up pretty good at the last tire change. I found a red paint that was a good match and now you would never know. The paint has held up well throughout a year of riding, including all winter (and the associated salt).

I’d recommend finding out what paint your mechanic used, so you can pick up a spare can for any future touch-ups as needed.

the cap is chrome but the stem is brassy.

look'n good. My buddy needs a little TLC. I don't have the salt from the sea but here in Michigan, as you know, we get road salt big time. It doesn't help that since I got the sh150 I haven't exactly been attentive to the buddy 50 either.
