Where's the idle adjustment screw on the Buddy 50 Carb?

Hi all,

Just picked up a Buddy 50. I've done a quick search and can't find a good pictures of exactly what the idle adjustment screw looks like on the buddy 50 and what the air/fuel mixture screw looks like.

Just looking at the carb and service manual, I'm guessing the idle adjustment screw is the one with a "knob" on it.

Can someone confirm this please? I want my scooter to idle a little higher but turning the screw (with the knob on it) a half turn didn't seem to do much.

Yup, the idle adjustment is the knob. It's hard to miss once you open the little compartment.

yes the "knob". Make sure the scooter is fully warmed up before you adjust.
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

Thank you very much.

While on the topic, where is the fuel/air mixture screw relative to the idle adjustment knob? I'm pretty sure mine is running lean and it's annoyingly sluggish.

I feel like the clutch spring on my buddy is a bit too stiff and find it annoying to have to rev up so high before the clutch engages. Upping my idle a little can compensate for that. Wonder if the previous owner had a stiffer spring installed or if all Buddy 50s are like that.

It's been a while since I've played with the Buddy 50 carb but I'm pretty sure there is a good pic of it in the service manual which can be found on this forum I think in the tech section. I didn't need to play with the air/fuel screw too much though. As for the clutch, it's possible they replace the springs but I don't think they make springs specifically for the Buddy 50's clutch so if they did that I'm not sure what they would have used. It's more likely they replaced the rollers with heavier rollers to get a higher top end which does have the result of making it more sluggish off the line. I've had both 7.5g and now 5.5 g sliders and I can definitely say the 5.5g give me much better performance with the performance pipe.

I search around the manual and couldn't find a good picture. In comparison to many service manual, I must say this PGO one is not very well written. I'll keep looking.

The "having to rev up high before the wheels respond" is getting to me so I'll take a look at the rollers weights. The scooter does also have 4000+ miles so it's also possible that they are worn.
