I bought the Solar Buddy to float charge my battery this winter but I do plan on riding a lot, the solar buddy has the cigarrete plug in adapter and I am still waiting to hear back from genuine to see if the 12v adapter on the buddy is backwards flow as well just like cars and trucks, the solar buddy serves two purposes for me, I rarely drive my f-150 anymore and it has an active alarm which will slowly drain the batter over time so I simply plug it into the cig lighter and set it on the dash and it keeps the battery charged.........hopefully it will work as well on the buddy too.........if not it comes with additional connectors to hook directly to the battery...

12 volt outlet
I put a 12 volt outlet on my 06-125 right above the key switch. Have not used it yet, but the clip-on fan idea from ScooterDave looks like a fun trick and might even give me a little extra boost off the line, like a turbo! Just kidding! Reminds me of the tow hitch boat propellers that I see so often. It is kinda funny, though!

Tupac
Don't you people in Cincinnati know that Tupac is dead. I know he is dead, but how the heck is he still making movies? And then sometimes, when I look outside my house in West Philly, sometimes I see him sitting on his crack car!

excellent observation skills! yes, i was indeed at the SCUM rally. my husband brought his vintage vespa ss180 and his IWL Berlin to that one. i was not an actual rider at that point.Lagerhead wrote: Is that a SCUM07 t-shirt in your avatar? If so, you may already have been behind me at a rally. Although that would have been pre-DVD.
well, i know i will recognize you at the next rally by the DVD player. looking forward to it!

Fair enough, but makes me wonder how much usefulness there really is in the feature. The fact is, most devices I could plug into such a thing (if I had an 07) aren't much use to me on my scooter (see ScooterDave's examples). I could see charging a cell phone on long road trips like http://www.peacescooter.com , but what else? GPS maybe.jetboy wrote:Alright, I'm calling all y'alls out as highjackers on this thread!![]()

I agree. I was hoping that I wasn't missing a real useful application. So far the only item I've run across is a tire inflator, which I'm thinking is too big to always have stashed under my seat and possibly the optional plug-in for the battery tender junior which I think relates to the issue Iceman raised above regarding "backwards flow". With the cold weather season getting closer, the ability to plug the battery tender in there would be real convenient. However, I'm unsure of the circuit's capability to handle it.lobsterman wrote: Fair enough, but makes me wonder how much usefulness there really is in the feature. ScooterDave: are you saying the solar chargers will work through that 12v outlet?

Re: Tupac
I saw Tupac down in South Philly hanging out at Broad & Snyder. He wanted to sell me a soft pretzel...one's fiddy cent, three for a dollar.Joel Belsky wrote:Don't you people in Cincinnati know that Tupac is dead. Yes. The ones I have were actually supplied by VW to use in the vehicles while they were in transit.jetboy wrote: ScooterDave: are you saying the solar chargers will work through that 12v outlet?

Stop & say hi at the next Cincinnati rally. I was the ride captain on the pink Buddy blocking traffic and riding in the lanes of oncoming traffic.diane wrote:excellent observation skills! yes, i was indeed at the SCUM rally. my husband brought his vintage vespa ss180 and his IWL Berlin to that one. i was not an actual rider at that point.

Bunnita, which GPS did you buy and did it come with the cig lighter adapter?
I just bought a digital voltage meter that plugs into the 12v buddy adapter, has a back light and everything.......way cool.......$19.99 and if anyone was wondering if the High Beam draws more voltage than the low beam it does not......no change in voltage at all............when I activate the turn signals however the voltage drops quite a bit but I did do the blinker mod so maybe that is why......

I have a Garmin StreetPilot C550 and it came with it. My old Nuvi had one also, though the Nuvi's was just a mini usb so that was nice.
I haven't figured out how to mount it so it currently sits in the glove compartment. I've seen pics of people who have gotten mounts on other scooters but I'm really not sure how to get it done on my buddy.

I think the main use will be cell phone charging (which I believe is all that it is supposed to be used for), and powering small gadgets like GPS. I can also see it being used to power a boom box for those not wanting to void their warranty with a permanent stereo installation.
Oh, by the way Lagerhead, the guy in front should be wearing the LCD helmet - to give the pillion something to watch.

Bunnita thanks for the info on the GPS......I see that is the model for in car use and not waterproof or resistant, I have been looking at the ZUMA 550 which is for motorcycles and weather resistant, I wonder if that comes with an adapter like the one you have...I will research it further and see if anyone has posted info on it.....have a good week everyone..

For mounts (if you don't have one), the Zumi comes with one IIRC, but it's not small enough for some scooter placements, *the* name to know is RAM Mounts

Generally, if you want it mounted, these are the guys to call

I found it funny too
True my Garmin isn't rated for rain but I don't ride my scooter in the rain so it never bothered me. The Zumi is around a grand if not more so I chose the less expensive one.
I've been told RAM mounts are the best, I haven't gotten one yet, like I said still not sure how to mount it on the Buddy.
The Zuma does allow you to map out a route and upload it, none of the rest of them do that. I had a long conversation with the very nice Garmin CS guy about that. If I had to do it all over again I might consider the Zumi once I was sure I could mount it on the scooter.
The 'adapter' for the StreetPilot is the receiver that gives me info about traffic, and it doubles as a charger. I don't know about the Zumi
