Hi Amy! The scooter is great fun, isn't it!!! There is a membership map on this site. You should check it out and see who in Des Moines is a member here. Surely there are a few. I get waves from other scooterists here but have yet to meet any of them face to face. We seem like a happy lot. Good luck rounding up converts :D

Wait..... !

No need to start your own scooter club in Des Moines, IA. There are actually two! One is a Vespa club, the other (RoadRash SC) is any type of scooter's! In our group, there are at least 6 other Buddy rider's...including my wife and I! (Also, there are at least 4 scooter clubs/groups in other parts of Iowa.) Please check out the link to RoadRash SC! We look forward to meeting you, and having you join us on some group rides! AND, Congrats on your new scooter!!!

We have 63 members! Always have a great turn out at events! The corporation (Vespa) Club has at least 20 active members! We have personally logged over 4.000 miles each on our scooters! I have normally enjoyed meeting midwestern scooter riders! We are proud of our club and group of fellow riders!

One might look at Genuine's top-10 dealer list from 2011 and take note that "flyover country" is quite well represented, thank you very much.

In fact, Iowa's just a short ride from Genuine world headquarters.

Thanks for all the replys, I knew Des Moines had a VespaC because I know a few people in it, but I was looking for one with multiple sccots so I could check em out and learn about a few others.I'll click on that link, and get some info.

I picked the Buddy because it seemed very reliable for my first scooter, where as my fiance just got a Stella, and was riding a Ruckus. I like the look of the Stella but you have to shift, and I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

We have people here, lots of them 8)

3,062,309 population last year, trust me- there more of us now, because we tend to have a good time in the winter trapped in the house ..

The state of Iowa is remarkably friendly to all forms of non-automobile transportation -- scooters, motorcycles, bicycles, even snowmobiles. If you're in the right part of the state, you have to watch out for the Amish buggies. Lots of people getting around in Iowa in something other than a car.

Congrats and welcome to Modern Buddy! I used to have family in Des Moines. I would think there'd be some nice rides outside the city. Enjoy your new scooter!! You've found the best place to talk about it already. 8)

West Coast snobbery! And rather uninformed. There are actually a LOT of scooterists there. The Corporation SC is also in Des Moines.

Des Moines is one of those places I've never been but have very good impressions of from people I know and things I've heard.

It is also where this comes from:

I thought those came from IC, not DM?

Or do they have stores in both cities?

They have stores in both, but their HQ where they do all the design is in DM, where they were founded. (I know way too much about this company considering I've never closer to Iowa than Chicago!)

I've been to Des Moines once, for a meetup of the extended family, chosen because it was equally inconvenient for the folks in Minnesota, Michigan, and Oklahoma. :) While I have no praises to sing for it (or the rest of Iowa) because it was just for a one-night stay, and the visit was all about hangin' with the cousins, I can confirm that it's a real city full of people who don't farm. :)
