Not sure if it's any different for the 170i, but on the 150s, it's pretty much engine oil change every 2,000 miles and gear oil change every 4,000. Change the filter every time too.

These don't burn much oil but if you're doing a lot of high speed or demanding riding, it may be good to check it every few hundred miles and top off as needed.

Eric is right on. I will say I will let it get a little over 2000 miles so I can do it when convenient. I find that the gear oil is so easy to change that Im gonna change it more often. It can probably go over 2000miles if you are using a synthetic oil, but thats a whole other can of worms.

well the blackjack has just 960 miles so...

but my Agility? sure. i just do it on a whim. still using the Rotella T 15-40w so its economical

i am thinking of going synthetic. but i use Rotella not exactly for its price, but because a lot of people swear by it! so maybe in 30,000 miles i will, too?

heard scoots go around 3mph faster top end with synth? probably a lie, huh?

we'll see. think i will go synthetic next change. if so....every 2000-2500m intervals, i guess

I hope you're just goofing here. Well, actually I hope you're not because that would be a little obnoxious. But I also hope you are, because if it's true you're wasting a lot of time and using the wrong oil.

i am not goofing. the 15-40w is for my Agility. the BJ has had 10-40w since new. it will get synth at 2000m

15-40w is recommended for the Agility :)

edit: oops. move the w's and it makes more sense

sorry, eric. i will be less irreverent if disturbing some of our more sensitive users. which of course may concern you as Admin. my apologies once more...

its because my engine blew and i got a little concerned at first. so i had to go through the whole "break in" again. change at 300 / 600 / 1500 and it just became habit, i guess. especially since i got 12 quarts of Rotella for $30

if you guys think 2000-3000m is good enough with synth...or even 4000m like bonegirl, i will do that. its why i asked her what oil she uses? hey, mobil 1 for 40,000 miles can't be wrong, right?

I think people put WAY too much emphasis on oil brands for these scooters. I use what I use because it's what I've always used and what my mechanic used before I started doing my own oil changes. But I'm not religious about it.

^^^^Yes Eric! If you put good oil in and change it right. Im already loving doing a valve-adjust and oil change. All I need now is gettin into the transmission. As far as this SHIT going on between you and the said party.....please stop. Said party needs to stop swinging his cock around. Host needs to stop stooping. Just my futile suggestion in a cruel world.

after a series of low mileage changes during break-in, I will start a 2000 mile oil change/filter interval using Castrol GTX Sny-Blend 10w-40 and HiFlo filters for the engine and 3500-4000 mile intervals for the rear hub using Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-140 gear oil or something equivalent once I run out of it

I read this thread and others and I thought the question might have been how often (time) do you need to change the oil.

Reason I ask is my buddy 150 gets hardly ridden, it has synthetic oil in it and I wondered if it needs to be changed anyway every 12 months at a minimum, I had read that was the case, but wondered why, does oil really break down after only 12 months, I assume oil in a container can sit on the shelf for much longer ..... ?

Not on a buddy, but on my Stella, I change the gear oil every 1000 miles because it's a quick thing to do and costs me a couple of bucks at most. I see it as preventative maintenance.
