Rats! Rats! -A busted off mirror stem!

However when I bought the Buddy, my very good dealer (Philadelphia Scooters) told me that he knew the left mirror socket was stripped, and that he would take care of it for me later. I didn't make too much of it then...

But now, when I tried to unscrew the mirror to replace it with the new wider mirror, POP! -the #$%&* stem snaps right off, leaving a stub stuck in the #%^%# socket!!!

Oh well. Dealer says not to worry, he'll take care of it... Methinks it's gonna take a new left side handle bar control unit. (Horn, directional and light sw's, mirror socket). Dealer says he'll order one Monday or Tuesday and it should "take a few days"...

Hokay, we'll see. They're good guys at Philadelphia Scooters, so if anybody can get Buddy parts promptly I'm guessing they will...

I wonder if mirror stems cracking off is a common problem? Seems another girl on this forum had one bust off too.

I've had mine off and on a half-dozen times with no issue...

Yes, and I need that too. Because I want to be able to put on and take off windshields as I feel like it!
But in this instance the dealer did know about the jammed mirror when he sold it to me, and he did honestly tell me about it. So at least it's covered by warranty...

Anyway I was able to easily put the right side longer mirror on the scoot and it works great, giving a much wider rear field of view!

If I am not mistaken the right hand mirror is reverse threaded and may be the reason people keep breaking these. someone correct me if I am wrong here as I dont want to put out bad information but I could of sworn when I put my windshield on that the right hand was lefty-tighty, righty-loosy.........

Yah, if you force it against the thread, of course you might break it! But the stem will only turn in the same direction that the lock nut does, so after you loosen that you'd have to be pretty dense to turn the mirror stem the opposite way!
And I was able to change my thread-reversed right mirror over okay; it was my left mirror (normal turning) that broke because it had been jammed into a stripped thread and wouldn't turn anymore...

I was the other one whose mirror broke off, leaving a stub. But that was because the scoot fell over when I put it on the kickstand on non-level ground -- it had nothing to do with the mirror itself.
