OT: Doggie adoption roadtrip!
Posted: Tue Aug 21, 2007 5:21 pm
So Stacey (my wife), and I will be trekking out to Denver in mid-September to pick up four dogs (two are going to other people, we're not *that* crazy)!
Cloud, our greyhound pup, will be coming along with us for the ride (and to meet his new family members).
After we lost Cohen and Nico, we had a really rough time with things. A neighbor gave Stacey a copy of Animals and the Afterlife, and that has helped her a lot. I don't really know if I buy into all of it, but hey, whatever gets you through your darkest hours... Anyway, I had a really vivid dream one night about Cohen. I remember maybe one or two of my dreams a year, and I usually don't recall them very clearly in those rare cases. I still remember this one, and at the close of it, I saw a black greyhound with amber eyes sitting in the corner of a room looking over her shoulder at me. And then I remember hearing a voice tell me that Cohen would come back as "a little muffin". Yeah, okay. :screwy:
Stacey was pretty into finding as much info as she possibly could on greyhounds online, and that's how we learned about galgos, and shortly thereafter, a resuce organization in Spain called Scooby Medina. It wasn't long before she found one of the arms of Scooby in the States, GRIN. Shortly thereafter, I saw a picture of one of the rooms at Scooby, and it was the room that I saw the little black dog in (a room just like this).
We started talking to GRIN more and more until we found Cecilia.

So wow... That was pretty amazing. :woot:
And then the [totally awesome] folks at GRIN asked us if we'd consider fostering a Podenco until they could find a permanent home. We said 'sure!', and by the way, what's a Podenco?
A little research informs that Podencos are also known as Ibizian Hounds, one of my other favorite breeds, and so we get all sorts of excited...
And then we see pictures.

So we get even more excited. At one point, Stace exclaims 'They're so cute! Just like little muffins!'
SKRITT!!
It takes Stacey a moment before she figures out what she just said (it'd been months since we talked about the 'little muffin' thing).
Okay, strange. Very strange.
So, we pretty immediately tell the folks at GRIN that we want one of the lil' guys in the picture. But they're both already spoken for.
D'oh! Guess it wasn't meant to be...
But as fate or destiny or dumb random luck/coincidence or whatever you want to call it would have it, the lady who was originally interested in the lil' boy on the left decided she was more interested in someone else, and ultimately, he was ours for the adopting.
So, this little whipper-snapper gets to come home to our little zoo as well.

And there it is.
Cecilia and the lil' Podenco guy are the reasons that we're going out to Colorado (for a night) in September.
I'm sure there'll be a lot of interesting pics of the road trip home (along with the two other dogs we're bringing back for other people).
