Hi all, long time lurker and very occasional poster here.
I need a new battery and am trying the mod in the tech library. But Autozone has a "Extreme Magna power AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery. Per the ad, it should last longer, no spilling, better cranking amps and it slices bread too. Only a little more than a satandard. I have time to deal with this today but not the rest of the week so if anyone can help me out I appreciate it.
Is it OK to use in my buddy (07 125)?
Edited to ask if I can/should still use a battery tender with it? (THough I know part of the point is that it dischages at rest much more slowly; my scoot has to sit for a couple of weeks at a time now ...

Thanks. They do not, I had to take off the bottom of the plate like outlined here... It took them a bit of work to find the right battery but they had two of them. topic14379.html

I just bought a new Scorpion AGM battery last week from this place: http://www.batterystuff.com. I'm sure there are cheaper prices out there but they are local for me and ship USPS Priority for "free" so anybody should get their new battery in a few days. They have some great articles as well.
Also I'm not sure why people push the YTX9-BS so much as it requires trimming the cover as outlined in the MB tech article. From the above vendor you can spend $4 more (than the YTX9-BS) and get a YTZ10S that has more capacity (than the YTX9-BS) and is a direct fit for the stock YTX7A-BS. I myself bought the YTZ10S.

Ahh, simply lack of time and research. (Though as the thread points out, it is nice to have the compatibility with a widely available battery in a pinch. The 9-BS was at autozone).
And as it turns out my wife does not need the car tomorrow, so I will leave the scooter parked for a bit more. And thanks for the tip, I will probably try one of those Scorpion batteries! Thanks, Ed

Yep. I put in a TZ10S-BS AGM battery a couple years ago. More capacity, no cutting, cheap.
For what its worth . . approximately 16 month old, continuously float charged, Adventure Power UTX7A-BS AGM battery (purchased at Ace Hardware for around $50) showed adequate voltage but lacked the amps to start a stock 50cc 4-stroke China scooter 139QMB engine. Removed battery from scooter, pried off the top strip cover, and added just enough distilled water to cover the internal cell plates with a pointed-tip squeeze bottle. Took about a day for the lights on my float charger to change from amber to green. The battery is still continuously float charged between scooter uses, and the starter continues to energize normally around 2 months later . . so time will tell. This procedure is NOT approved for AGM batteries, so only try at your own risk with proper personal protection.

Yes, this size is definitely the prefered choice. Greater capacity and perfect fit. (the first two letters are the manufacturer, by the way - several manufacturers make this battery)
