Modern Buddy

My beloved Buddy was stolen today at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston. I already posted on scoot.net, am currently printing flyers and am keeping my eyes on Ebay, Craiglist etc. Did anybody ever get their scooter back?
It was a white Buddy and I just attached a chrome rack to the back. I had it for less than a year and am devastated right now.
I'm from Malden, MA (I know there's some some other users on here that live in the area). Please keep your eyes open!

THAT SUCKS! SO SORRY! WAS IT LOCKED IF SO LET US KNOW WHICH ONE SO WE CAN ALL MAKE SURE WE ARE WE ARE USING THE RIGHT LOCKS. DID YOU PARK THERE BEFORE? ANY OTHER PROBLEMS EVER. I REALLY HOPE YOU GET IT BACK!!

Yes, it was locked but only to itself, which was of course a huge mistake, these things are just too easy to be carried away by two strong men.
I parked there at least 50 times before, never had a problem...I mean it's at school, it was the last place I thought it would get stolen from! There was another scooter and two huge motorcycles parked there when I left it. There's always a bunch of two wheeled vehicles parked there...

What kind of Buddy is it any decals or distinguishing bling? Was the lock broken off or on the ground when you got back? My guess is that someone was watching it and knew they could get away with it! Were there any cameras on the grounds that may have caught something. You reported it right?

No, the lock wasn't there. There is a chrome rack on the back that I just attached. Couple of scratches I could certainly identify myself. I tried to upload a picture here but it won't work...
The police report is filed...no cameras anywhere there.

So sorry to hear about your loss.

Sad to see it's happening...folks had discussed here how as gas prices increased again, so would scooter thefts. At the risk of being alarmist, it seems that posts about stolen scooters has increased here. I have huge chains and locks. and I'm gonna start locking my scoots around the floor board to whatever I can.

Good luck on getting back your machine! And bad luck on the @@&^$#$#* who stole it - bad luck like losing limbs and bankruptcy...

Sorry to say that I never got my original BlackJack back, which was stolen from my own back yard in Malden. I'm a full year into my second one, and that sucker gets chained up back there now. I also use a grip-lock, and I installed a GPS tracker (when it works...). Thinking about installing a Gorilla Alarm soon.

I'll keep an eye out for a white buddy, but it is unlikely that people would just be driving it around. Mostly they're stolen and scrapped for parts.

Check some of the stores and gas stations near campus. They may have cameras that caught the offenders stopping in or driving by with a white scooter in their truck. Good luck. I hope you had insurance.

Nope. No insurance. Didn't seem like anyone wanted to insure a 50cc when I tried.

Did you try Progressive? They're who I get my insurance from. Too late now, of course, but for your next one.

I am so sorry. I have Geico for my 50cc. Lots of scooter thefts all of a sudden

State Farm insured my 50cc...

You may find it turns up if they took it for a joy ride. I think Lo-Jack has
a sticker which when applied to the frame hard to remove and this is stored in a data base so the bike can be identified. Still may help deter someone from taking. Good luck hope you get it back.

We have mandatory insurance, and geico was best for me (farmers wanted 4x the price).

Hey, mine just got stolen last week, so I know how you feel just sucks soo bad ... didnt even have mine 30 days ! My experience with the police is, that they dont even go looking for it, they just wait until it turns up in some accident or some other stuff ... I definitely go buy another one as soon as i have the money, i just loved it ... and ill be getting a lock and a GPS tracker, so next time i hope i wont feel so helpless. I dont think it will turn up but at the same time i dont wanna give up hope. oh and i was insured with geico ... but i dont know how they handle it, have to wait another 15 days, then i can tell you more ... and i was putting the flyer on everybodys facebook wall of the people i know in this city and on motorcycle clubs and the news pages and also the police department facebook wall ... then i printed them out and handed them out to motorcycle repair shops and stores, just in case they break something on the scooter they have to go somewhere to get a replacement part .... and also motorcycle / biker bars and hang-out places ... still check craigslist and ebay of my city and surrounding citys.... thats all i came up with... anyways good luck in getting it back !!!

How do those GPS trackers work? Do they need a power source? Do you have to pay a monthly subscription? How small are they and where do you put them?

The one I use, Enfotrace, hooks up to the battery. It sleeps, so it doesn't use much power while the bike is sitting still. Yes, the system cost $300 for the first year, and then it is $50/year after that, I believe. As for where to put it, that is up to you. I found a spot to stick it under the front cover.

That said, my Enfotrace stopped working for me back in October, and I have sent it back into them twice, and I still can't get the damn thing to work again. As soon as I have time, I am going to get out my multimeter and some taps, and determine if the thing actually is getting power. If it is, but still not working, I am done with Enfotrace. I'll just go with a Gorilla alarm instead.

Anja I am from this area as well and if you are interested I have three scooters and am thinking of selling one a Kymco People 50cc it has only 500 miles on it and is like brand new. Am cleaning out the carb since not used enough. If interested just let me know will give more details.
