Winter glove recomendation

Post by Maximus53 »

Does anyone have any suggestions for good winter gloves? I will typically ride to work as long as it is above freezing out, but my hands are ususally numb by the time I get there. I know it is getting warm out, but I am hoping I can get a clearance deal by buying them off season :)

I'd be interested too. Seems like it would be a good time to find a deal over the next few months.

These are great; especially if you have heated grips.
FirstGear Glacier TPG .
on sale here
The Tundra's are on sale if you don't mind the knuckle armor.

So with no palm padding, how are those without heated grips?

I'm pretty impressed with the new GoGo Gear men's winter gloves, excellent value in a dedicated winter riding glove.

Whatever brand you get I recommend a full gauntlet for sure. Nothing is worse for staying warm than having the cold wind going up your sleeves!

$299 with batteries ($199+$99 for the batteries), plus you will want to get Nixwax ($10-15) to waterproof them.

You will have a low, medium and high setting. Very good product.

+1!!! Ive got a "gauntlet" style pair made by Firstgear Im pretty happy with. That said, if its 30 degrees or colder out, your hands will get numb after 30 minutes or so. Heated gloves/grips are the answer for long, cold rides. We dont get too cold here and I don't have many long rides, so the the $ has always been a sticking point.

Edit-Ive also got a rain jacket made by Firstgear thats great. They make good products that arent too pricey IMO. My 0.02.

Having ridden through a mild winter here, I can tell you that riding a winter in Chicago... ow.

Seriously look into heated gloves, glove liners, or grips. They will probably save you.

Also, it won't just be cold, but wind chill that gets to your hands, and since it's hella windy in Chicago, look into handlebar muffs.

I think you could do very well with heated grips, a pair of good gauntlet-style winter gloves, and handlebar muffs. And it will probably still run cheaper than straight-up heated gloves that have to run off a battery.

For muffs, look at Tucano Urbano or Hippo Hands.

I actually use heated gloves (self contained batteries) AND heated grips (direct wired to battery), but I have Raynauds, so warm hands are a must. :)

My heated gloves warm the top and sides of my hands, and the grips take care of my palms.

No problem at all. I usually only use the Heaterz when the temps are in the 20's or less. My palm is always wrapped around the grip so that's not the part that gets cold. But, when the grips are on, the thinner palm lets the heat in. I also recently added handlebar muffs for those temps in the 20's and teens, too.
The combination of the gloves, grips and muffs is da bomb!
