Will Heidenau K58 100/80 10's fit?

Post by 2wheelNsanity »

I was looking for a good rain tire and could only find the Heidenau K58's in 100/80 10. This is only 1 aspect away from the the stock size 100/90 10 so will these fit the Buddy?

I don't know for sure about the 100/80 10's, but my guess is that they won't fit. If you can get 3.5-10, those should fit. I've got 3.5-10's (though not Heidenau) on my 150.

Thanx, I'll call the dealer and get their opinion on the 3.5's. The reason I want the K58 is the tread pattern looks like it would work alot better on graveled roads, of which I ride on about 10 miles a week.

The thread pattern of the k58 is indeed really aggressive. I have ridden with them in a full-blown snowstorm and they were fantastic. Expect reduced life when riding in dry and hot conditions however. Also no idea how well they perform on gravel.

Hold on, Rita, if a 100/90x10 fits, a 100/80x10 isn't going to be any wider or taller. It's going to have a lower profile, yeah, but I don't think the tire should rub on the forks or have some part of the scoot drag on the ground.

Help me understand why 100/80 wouldn't fit.

True, it might fit. As I said, it was my guess that it wouldn't. When I was shopping for tires, I was looking at 100/90 10's and 3.5 x 10's based upon information I found at the time. So I assumed those were the only sizes that would fit. I am probably wrong. Heidenau has a good chart with exact measurements here: http://www.moto-amore.com/heidenau/index.html. Maybe that will help?

Thanx the chart does help.
I also found a chart from Michilen. The 100/80 is the same width as the 100/90 however the static height is .61 in. shorter for the 100/80.
The 3.50 is a little taller than the 100/90 by .11 in. but a lot more narrow at 3.62 in (as compared to 3.98 for the 100/90 and 100/80).
I just wish they would make my size in a good rain tire

Now, now... don't cry. FWIW, I have 3.5 x 10's (Michellin) on mine and they're fine. They are noticeably narrower, but they still work. Since I live in Portland, I ride in the rain... a lot. You do need to be aware of rain performance when choosing your tires, but you don't necessarily need something that's specifically for rain. I chose my tires for year round performance because I can't afford to be changing them out a couple of times a year. You may (or may not) have noticed that my name appeared the the "who's crashed" thread recently. I just want to assure you that my crash had nothing to do with my tires and did not occur in wet conditions.

the tires will fit fine, your bike will just have a little less ground clearance.

edit: also your speedo and odometer will be slightly more off.

((2*pi*217mm)-(2*pi*207mm))/(2*pi*217mm)= 4.6%

Thanx, I think I'll go with the S1s cuz like pdxrita said no sense of getting a dedicated rain tire and have to change them all the time and for the graveled roads I'll just have to take it slow. As for the crying I was just trying to be funny, failled :~(.
