Look up past posts by kaos. He has done a fair amount of this and has posted many of his experiences.

The Buddy is a short block GY6, but I do believe that the crank stroke is different (look around here - it's been discussed).

I'd pull off the top and see if the rest was OK. If not, I'd pitch it - for me splitting the case is too much work.

I had a Buddy 125 engine with a bad piston and cylinder, (metal bits everywhere!), The crank, bearings and case were OK. I replaced the top with a big bore kit, flushed it clean and 4000 miles later it's still good to go.

Try calling Scooterworks.

Scooterwest is also likely to have or be able to get a replacement: http://scooterwest.com
But again, best to call.

Used engines from salvage scoots are not that uncommon. Sad to say, many totaled Buddys out there with good engines. Area dealers may have some in the back rooms or know where you can get one.
