So my brother-in-law, who rides a 1980 vespa 100cc (not sure of the model) had this discussion with me about scooters.
We decided that the first step in connecting with your scoot was to first decide the gender of it. Something in you already knows if it is a he or a she. When you ride, is it like you are with a friend, or a mistress (or whatever the male equivalent would be for that word). Something like that will tip you off to what the sex of your scooter is.
After you decide if it is a he or a she...then it is appropriate to figure out his or her name (which it looks like many of you have)...so i am interested (and if this has been done already, it can be a chance for some newer folks to share) what is the scoots sex and name (and a little history to the name if there is one):
I will go first: I would like to introduce you to Bea, named after some old lady and pronounced the same way too

It was the second choice. !st, for about 3 minutes, her name was Gloria...but Bea seemed to fit better. I ran it past my wife and she agreed that Bea was perfect.

In the age-old tradition of naming things after women (ships are still refered to as she) ALL of my vehicles have had female names. More importantly, this goes back to the mid-70's when my father took me to see the original Gone In 60 Seconds. In that movie, the car thieves would only refer to their targets by a female name. I was hooked. From that point on, ALL of my vehicles have had a woman's name.
My P200 had to have an Italian name, so I eventually settled on Gina.
Susan's Buddy remains named "Buddy". *sigh*

Got one called Rosie (a red Buddy) and one called Charlie (a blue Vino). Bonus points to anyone who figures out where those names came from.

Awwwww...
I haven't named mine yet. I refer to it as "better than a boyfriend", which makes me think it's male, but I also feel like it's female. Maybe it's transgendered.
My thoughts so far:
I am blonde and have a cream Buddy. I am a Salsa dancer who lives in New Mexico. Sometimes i am a softie, romantic, daydreaming wussy. Other times, I am hardcore, beat your souped up Lexus in a second, pissin', moanin', swearin', etc. mega-bitch. Always, I am the ditsy blonde joke. My scoot and I connect like no other. It is very similar to me.
Possibilities:
Rubia/ Rubio (Blonde in spanish)
Riquisisima (very suave in spanish)
Neither of these stuck. I don't think they are the names of my scooter. HELP!!!!!!!!
Ideas anyone?

I project that my scooter is a girl.
I hadn't named her but one has slowly emerged.
Shortly after the accident it was "THAT DAMN SCOOTER!"
But recently "Scoot Scoot" has become the common term for my Vespa between the wife and I.
I am making the executive decision to call her "Scoot Scoot" from now on!
I NEED to take a picture of her and use that as my avatar soon as well!
Name of my little buddy!!!

Pinky Tuscadero is the name of my pink 2006 Genuine Buddy 125. She's my sister, because I'm Leather Tuscadero. Ha, ha, ha.
There's a few great threads listing the names of people's scooters on here. Makes for good reading!

I've been thinking about this a lot, because I've had my scooter for months and am starting to project a personality onto it. It's pretty spunky, holds up well to pressure, is relatively obedient, and--dare I say--attractive. It has an androgynous quality to it, so I'm not directly attributing a gender to it. But....
I used to know a couple in Brooklyn who adopted their pit bull from someone with a thick accent who named their dog "Buttercup". Because we liked the accent almost as much as we liked the dog (who was spunky, cute, obedient, held up well to certain types of pressure, and, like my scoot, had an incident with a car and survived), we all called the dog "Butta".
That must've been 13 years ago and I'm sure Butta the dog is long gone by now. I'd like to think Butta's vitality encapsulates my scooter. Thus, my cream-colored Buddy is now and forever yclept Butta.
