This isn't why I ride a scooter...

But still, every time I fill up my truck I do clench a little.
Then, as I was writing this fillup in my book, I noticed that I put all of 2500 miles on my truck in the last 12 months. So I checked and found that in the same 12 months in 2005 - 2006, just before I got my first scoot, I put 15000 miles on my truck. I didn't get the scoot to save money - and I havent yet covered the cost of purchase, registration and insurance. But extending the service life of the truck has a value too, so I'm getting close, I think.

Amen, we got it because we needed another vehicle, though one that would not cost us too much money. I filled my car up the other day and almost cried.

I worked it out the other day; I've gone nine months of near daily scooting on the equivalent of just a little over two fill-ups on my old Pontiac Vibe. 31 gallons used in nine months over 2300 miles.
That still blows my mind...

No kidding. I had no idea how many errands I could do on a scooter rather than a car but it must be a lot... I went from impending about $52 a week to fill up my car to $52 every 16 or 17 days. There are quite a few dys my car just sits; alone, and not very loved.

In the past three years, I've put about 7000 miles on my car, and about 14000 miles on my scooter. Probably about 4000 miles on the scooter were road-trip miles I wouldn't have done with the car. But even if you don't count those, because of the scooter I have a car with 94,000 miles on it, instead of one with 104,000 miles.

Now that I moved to the big city (yes, we'll need to get together for coffee and donuts, Syd), I just sold my pickup. Scooter only until I find just the right keyboard and amplifier hauler...

If I didn't have kids to cart around I would sell my car in heartbeat...

I have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery I bought as a retirement present to myself. I have always loved the way they looked and I wanted something to haul the grandkids in and take on long trips. It's a big V8 and uses permuim which can cost a pretty penny to fill up. Since I'm retired, I only have to fill it up about once a month but that runs between $60-70. I bought my 09 Buddy 125 last year because I wanted something fun to drive around when it's just me. I don't have as much time to drive it since I am taking care of my grand daughter during the week but I do enjoy getting on it on the weekends or when I am meeting up with friends if the weather is nice. I enjoy taking it for errands and leaving the Rover sitting to save some gas money as I am on a "fixed income" now. I still enjoy taking the Rover out for trips and when I have the family or carpooling with friends somewhere. When my friend retires in a few years, we are planning on getting a small motor home to tour the country and putting the scooter on the back for those times when we are parked.

heh gas price is most definitely the reason I got a scooter
i'm kind of a car-loving tree-hugger, so having a scooter allows me to splurge in my love of cars without feeling like the scum of the earth. the cars get used when it makes sense. the majority of the time they just sit there in the garage space.
i love spending so little on gas. speaking of which, yesterday while getting gas the guy in the next pump kind of gave me a disgusted look as he's filling the tank of his huge truck. pretty funny.

Be thankful you're only paying $3.75/gal. Here in California, try $4.49. You're $80 tank would cost $95 here.

Oh no, you left the Verde Valley for the Big Valley? My sympathies, Keys. Hope it works out for you.

I average one tank of gas a month in my Corolla now that I scoot when ever possible (I'm talking winter). In the summer I'm down to one tank in about 3 months.

We have our car, that was getting a fill up a week, and were borrowing my aunts car and we would fill that up once every two weeks, so the scooter is a savior!

I filled up the scooter the other Sunday after a nice long ride. It took a little over $3 to fill it up. The gas station owner was joking with me about the amount I spent verse what I spend for the Rover when I fill that up. I know he would rather see me come in with the Rover.

I've spent as much on gas in BOTH scooters overall in 6 months that I would have spent normally per week previously. I don't have that commute anymore (since it is frowned upon to set people on fire) the savings isn't as dramatic, but it's much more fun.
