SYM scooters

Has anyone test drove any of the SYM scooters? More specifically the HD200? Any impressions?

I've heard good things about the 200. Scooter World has a quick write up in their current issue. Locally, we're getting one (in the next week or so) for justgottascoot.com and possbily for an MMM review.

Ive ridden... The ride is awesome, and they arn't as expensive as a Kymco with similar specs. The HD125/200 features a 4 valve engine. The extra valves add a lot of torque and some more horsepower which really makes these things fast and capable of doing just about anything you would want it to. These are very nice scooters with an awesome 2 year warranty and very nice fit and finish. The only downside to this scooter is there is limited underseat storage, meaning not generous.

I read it! I can't wait until Motorsport get them in. As of Friday, they didn't have one on the floor yet.

Yeah, I would love to see one up close too, but the closest dealer is 140 miles away

I have about 2500Km on a 2006 HD200 and I love it. I'm 6'3" and it fits me very well.

I've not seen top speed yet, but I've gotten it up to about 65 indicated with throttle to spare. In fact, this last weekend was the first time I felt WOT. I rode from the Sedona, AZ area to Payson; one section of HWY 260 goes from an elevation of about 4000' to maybe 7500' in about 20 miles. If Keys reads this thread, he can vouch for the ride. Anyway, there are several lengthy sections of 5-6% grade and I never dropped below 50 indicated. In the 2500Km I'm averaging about 70mpg. The speedo seems to be a little generous, but the odometer seems to be accurate.

Overall, I'm real happy with it.

I have Skutergruven bookmarked. I never would have considered riding to Payson before reading about your trips to the 'other Valley' in AZ. But honestly, my, uh, er, sitting area was getting pretty sore after just that 80 or so miles to Payson. I still can't quite imagine Cottonwood to Gilbert in a day. But who knows?

And since I just got a MotoTote, so that I can haul the Sym up there when the better half and I go up to the in-laws, I might take you up on the ride offer too.

I got a chance to check one out at NoHo Scooters this afternoon. Mike (proprietor) offered to let me take it out, but I didn't have time so will definitely ride it next time I'm in. Mike's been riding one from Pasadena to NoHo and really likes it—says it has all the power of a Kymco 250. While I don't like the style quite as much as the Kymcos, the SYM looked pretty good fit & finish-wise—on a par with PGOs & other higher-end Taiwanese models. For something like $3100 OTD price (yep, that includes tax, registration, dealer fees, etc.), this scoot should compete pretty well with others in its category and is even cheap enough to compete with the Buddy. It's MUCH larger and heavier, though, so won't have same appeal. But for those needing to do some highway riding, the SYM might be a good choice.

I'm looking forward to getting a chance to ride it, but won't be back at the dealer for a couple weeks. I hope.

I'm reviewing an RV 250 right now. So far, I like it a lot. One of the easiest scooters to ride that I've ever been on. Good handling and relatively light for a 250. Was able to cruise into work yesterday at an indicated 70, and the bike was very composed and wasn't struggling to maintain speed.

I'll write more once I've put a few miles more miles on 'er.

ive not ridden one but I heard a rumor that SYM is Tiawan's BEST scooter, with Kymco and PGO right behind. **shrug**

i found the same thing when researching them. it seems SYM and Kymco vie for the #1 spot back and forth with PGO and Yamaha Taiwan fighting for 3rd & 4th place. no matter.... thats pretty good company to be in!

I'll be interested in reading your review. I really like the look of the RV 250 and the upcoming CityCom 300. One of these might make a great second scoot for when I want to get out on the highway.

P.S. Did you figure out what to do with that silly little pop-up door thingy on the floorboard of the RV250? Is there anything under that door that you have to access? I figure otherwise just epoxy it closed before it gets busted?!?

I have no idea what that's for. I've tried to ignore it, but occasionally it'll pop up on it's own.

How do you like the RV generally otherwise? Or should I just pipe down and wait for the article?

So far, I like it a lot. It's a bit smaller than the People 250, and I like the styling more. I'm not looking forward to giving it back.

sym and kymco are the top taiwanese scooters in taiwan closely followed by yamaha, this is because yamaha build in china and thailand and only the 'brand' conscious buy them.
PGO is the most hated for some reason, most people refuse to work on them or dont bother carrying parts, its really odd.
PGO mostly deal in exports, maybe this is a reason.

said it before and i will say it again, taiwanese quality is one of the best you can get.

Isn't it true that SYM is the top, or one of the top vehicle manufacturers in Taiwan? I've heard that they even make cars for Hyundai.

EDIT: Okay, back from reading. Nice job on the review. I enjoyed reading it even though I discovered that the RV250 is not for long-legged folks like me. You did a really nice job with the pictures and some interesting perspective on the scooter from different viewpoints. Good show!

Kevin, something interesting I thought you might be interested to see. Cyberscoot.it has posted a review of the Citycom 300. Right now it's on the front page of their site. According to that review (at least according to the more-or-less readable Babelfish translation I'm looking at), it looks like they're saying the Citycom has comfy ergos for tall folks. All the more reason to hold my breath and save my pennies...

Again, nice job on the RV250 review. Thanks!

Still, The SYM RV250 is a great scooter. If anyone gets a chance to ride one, do so.

Aw, looks like no SYM Wowow Super Cub clone in the U.S. this year.
