This story has been making the rounds recently. It has not gotten any more realistic from the last time I saw it.

Yeah. This story has been making the rounds, each time with small differences.

In this article for example it claims that it broke a swingarm and frame beam, whereas the last time it was an axle.
Now, assuming this guy really is so awesome that he could pull accomplish what the article claims, which would have been easier... fixing the thing that broke on the car or mcguyvering a motorcycle out of the car over the course of 12 days?

Also the claim that he used nothing but a hacksaw to make holes, by bending the metal, cutting the hole, then rebending, is pretty laughable. He would have needed a serious supply of hacksaw blades and his arm would have fallen off before he put any sort of dent into a piece of metal that way.

Oh, I never got that far in the story. That is pretty funny. Truth be told, I started looking at the pictures. When I saw him rocking the speedo I just closed the page. :bleh:

Check the update and comments. The story is true, though maybe not precisely as told, and happened back in 1993.

It's been picked up by blogs recently and spread in ways it could not have 9 years ago or even when Gizmodo's sister site Jalopnik covered this in 2009. As often happens, the story's changing a bit with multiple retellings.

But the nut of it, at least, is true. And awesome.
