Modern Buddy

I just bought a buddy used. It's very new but I'm unable to get the steering lock to work. I turn the handle all the way to the left and try turning the key but the key will only go half way, not all the way to the locked position.

It is a used scooter. Are you sure there is no damage to the locking mechanism? (Frequently inflicted by scooter thieves) Did you see it working properly when purchasing it? Assuming all is as it should be you can try jiggling the steering column while turning the key. That often helps.

This. Don't crank it all the way over to the left... it SHOULD move... I had troubles at first, too.

OK... so what's the story of the scoot, then? I bought mine from the original owner who had to replace a chinese scoot that crapped out on him... Hope yours isn't hot!

I also bought from the original owner. It has 700 miles on it. I thought the seller showed me how to lock it. I'm not sure whether she actually did it or not though. I feel like she did but now when I try it, the key won't budge that far and I don't want to force it. It goes half way but you can't take it out when it's half way.

took me a while too, had to sort of 'jiggle' it.

if it's not working entirely, you might have it looked at just in case.

when you say jiggling it, to you mean the key or the steering column?

It's a complicated mechanism and easy to jam up. A combination of jiggling (handlebars and key) and lube (key socket only, not the handlebars) may be necessary.

Try jiggling the handlebars while turning (not forcing!) the key. There's a bit of a trick to it but once you get it, it's easy.
