Oklahoma Motorcycle Test

Post by doscoot59 »

I've had my scooter for about a month now, have been riding around the neighborhood, in a nearby parking lot and ventured to the grocery store, which is less than one mile away. I think I'm ready to go to the DMV and take my motorcycle test but would like to know what to expect. I'm kind of nervous about it. Do all test sites give the same test? Has anyone taken the test at the BA, Oklahoma DMV and can tell me what to expect? Are there cones, etc.? Lots of questions, I know, I just want to be prepared!

have you taken an MSF course yet? it's totally worth it. you'll learn how to ride safely and keep yourself safe on the roads. while you can't control the behaviors of drivers on the road, you can control your own. the MSF course will teach you valuable skills that can save you from getting into an accident or worse.

and, the DMV test happens at the end of the course as well. when you have that, all you have to do is go to the DMV and get your M certification on your driver's license.

+1 on the MSF course.

The DMV test is a joke in comparison.

MSF is a Good Thing, but do verify that it waives the testing in Oklahoma. The MSF course counts towards the riding test in _lots_ of states, but not everywhere. I think.

Edit: I looked it up on the MSF website, and BRC completion seems to waive the skills test, it does not waive the Knowledge test. At least in this most recent document:

The MSF course does waive the testing in Oklahoma, but you still have to go to the DMV for the written portion. Its a multiple choice 20 question test. Super easy if you take the MSF course the instructors prepare you very well. The MSF course is an investment for your safety and will prepare you for the road. I took the course and I loved that I did. Not only do you get a discount on your insurance it gives you peace of mind.

+1. Definitely take the MSF (it does cover the riding portion of the test). They have a class in BA; it is well worth it. It really opened my eyes in a big way to how I needed to ride in traffic.

Overall, Oklahoma drivers are very aware of scooters and motorcycles but there are still people out there who make mistakes (and the occassional brain-dead driver).

Ride safe!

P.S.--any of you Oklahoma folks riding up to Amerivespa next month?

I'll be riding to Amerivespa from Colorado but I maybe riding back to Oklahoma for a court hearing in Eufaula about some land we inherited there. I've already had to go 4 times this year and will be going at least 2-3 more times before the year is over.

I suspect our schedules won't sync but we can certainly talk about it at Amerivespa. It will be good to see you again, last time was San Antonio. I can't handle New Orleans in July.

Have not taken the MSF course. When I checked at the local one I found, the slots were all full for the summer. :-(
Plus, it's pretty expensive, not that you can put a price on learning to ride safely, but just saying. Been to the DMV 3 times so far and haven't been able to take the test(s) yet because they had so many people there that they filled up all available time slots for the driving test. The way they run that place is ridiculous!

I highly recommend you try the Bartlesville testing center as well. I cannot say how much I learned at the MSF course. It completely refocused my expectations about riding safely. Do your best; get to it as quickly as possible.

Practice your skillz riding out to the testing center on the west side. It's out on 21st, almost to Chandler Park.
