I am considering buying and installing a Gen-U-Bin... http://www.scooterdude.us/

I have a few ???'s...

1) how difficult is it to install AND keep the hook?

2) how do you use the outlet (it looks like the cup holder blocks it)?

3) anyone 'lock' theirs and HOW?

thanks

1) If you have good scissors or a good razor, it's ridiculously easy.

2) it only blocks the outlet if you have something in the cupholder. I find it's really good for water bottles and such, not so much for hot coffee :P.

3) I have a tiny suitcase lock, but I don't use it. there's nothing you could 'lock' it with that someone couldn't just rip the lid off if they wanted to. However I've heard a few others lock it to keep things from bouncing out on long trips.

I think it would have to be something pretty damn heavy to bounce out of that if it is snapped shut. It snaps pretty tight. Then again, it is just plastic, so if you open and close it often, I suppose the "snap" would get looser over time.

I've done coffee, just remember to get one of those coffee tab things that keep it from getting out of the sippy hole.

I agree with everyone here, its easy to install and if you cut off the upright support tab you can still use the hook. I don't bother locking it since you can remove the whole piece pretty simply.

I would say it's mostly useful if you like to bring a drink with you or hate stuff moving around in the bin as you are driving and would rather have it more confined.

It's ok at best, but does what it's supposed to do. I cut the bottom out of the drink holder so my coffee cup would fit more securly. I also kept the stock hook, and put some double stick 3m tape around for it to be a little more secure...

They didn't make a brown one so I painted a black one brown with Rustoleum plastic pain...

Came out quite well..

Thanx
David

I don't lock mine but also don't keep anything of value in there. However, make sure that the cover snaps tight because stuff bounces out quite easily. I forgot once and my loctite container and a wrench bounced out!

I'd agree that it is just ok.

The biggest downsides are the lame branding on the lid and that drinks frequently bounce out of the cup holder. I actually avoid putting drinks in it for that reason. It also doesn't use the space efficiently, but you can stow away some stuff underneath.

The upside is that it makes things look a bit more finished.

All said, I am satisfied, but not even remotely thrilled to have one.

the cup holder,is handy for holding a small gps device,
and the bin itself, holds my camera and house keys

thanks all for the honest feedback...

I believe I will wait and re-evaluate this later; I think my priority will be to get a quality topcase to replace the one that worked loose and flew off about 6 weeks ago after hitting a series of crappy road repairs...

Heh. I got both of mine the same week. I think the gen u bin is of better quality than the color matched topcase, but it does make a fine backrest for the wife...

Got mine this week for my Psycho. Installed first by taking the bag hook off, then decided I wanted it so I folded it down. Seems just as sturdy after the bin is in.

I fit a grande mocha in the cup holder and it does not block my charger. My charging cable runs down into the little compartment where I keep my iPhone.

The door snaps shut even with the charging cable going into the compartment. It has only popped open because of this about 5 times in the year I have had it.

I have had water bottles pop out of the cup holder.

I did not use the gen-u-hook, I just cut it off and use the bike's original hook. This means my bin lid does not upen all the way but all I keep in there are pens, gum and phone, so it's no biggie.
