At some price point will a bid not be "automatically" outbid as soon as it's submitted?
I rarely if ever use ebay, so I don't know if this is a common occurance. Good luck to you.
I'm going to hold out for an '08 St. Tropez B125. I heard from some Genuine employees at the RMB rally that it is going to be blue and silver. They also mentioned a Spanish edition later in 08 being maroon and cream.
Again, this came from the mouths of GENUINE employees - so take from that what you will.

The way bidding works is that you bid whatever maximum you'd like to bid and ebay will automatically increases the price, if there are other bids, until you're maximum IF someone's maximum bid is higher than your maximum bid you're automatically outbid. Means your bid wasn't high enough and someone wants it more than you.

I guess I am wondering how the bid was $1.75 before i bid $1000.00 but was immediately outbid.
Are you saying someone bid $1.75 but put a max bid higher than $1000.00?
If so, could that be you that has set the MAXBID to what could be considered a nice reserve?
Not accusing you of anything, i am just wondering how this bidding on line works.
I don't use ebay enough to know. I am not really interested in another Italia. One is enough but I thought i would test the waters anyway.

Yep, that's what happened.JokerJim wrote:I guess I am wondering how the bid was $1.75 before i bid $1000.00 but was immediately outbid.

If the guy that bid on it bid $2000, your bid would automatically be outbid until you exceeded $2000.
There are what's called shill bidders, where the seller asks buddies to bid it up a bit, just to raise the price. This is a risky business though, because if a shill bidder wins it, the seller has to pay insertion AND final value fees to ebay.
If the shill bidder backs out altogether, the seller has to jump through hoops just to start over again without paying to list it again. Of course, if the seller admitted to having a shill bidder, he would probably have his account close immediately, as it is against the rules.
"Testing the waters" is not really a good thing to do. It bumps the price up for the guy who is really interested in it. He might get it for a few hundred less if you hadn't done that.
The only way to get a deal on ebay any more is to either be bidding on something no one else wants or use 'Buy it Now' for something that was priced below market value. (the seller has to make this an option)

I will more than likely be buying a Buddy in the next month or so. I would love to have the pink one - but my husband won't be caught dead on it so I was going to compromise on the cream one. Do you happen to know what the new 08 colors will be? I was told that they will be having new colors and a new limited edition - I guess like the Italia (is that what you mean by the St. Tropez?). The dealer won't give me (or maybe he doesn't have) any info. They'll be having a grand opening special going on next month but I don't want to buy a Buddy now only to be wishing I'd waited for one in a different color....
Thanks!!!

From what I was told, the St Tropez would be a blue and silver scoot. They mentioned a Spanish maroon and cream scoot later in '08.
I can't remember the 2 guys names from Genuine that were at RMB rally in MN a few weeks ago. They could have been giving me false info but i doubt it. They were cool.
