Modern Buddy

Hi, I am new to this forum and new to scooters. I recently bought a 2008 St. Tropez, and am currently in the acquiring gear phase. I have not ridden this scooter yet. Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but I searched and couldn't find any info on it. I am wondering if there are specific brands of helmets that fit in the seat compartment? I bought an HJC Cl-15 size XL and it fits but I can't engage the lock. It could just be that my head is too damn big. I am taking it back today. Thank you all in advance. Pete

it's not your head... it's that the pet carrier is more shallow than pretty much all helmets except for the half-helmets. everything else just seems to be too tall by default because of the design.

you can also use the helmet latch (those two pegs on either side, at the front of the seat where it pivots open) to hook your helmet on (via the metal D-rings) and then close your seat. it's not exactly the same as having a helmet under the seat in the pet carrier, but it does work for situations where you don't want to bring your helmet in.

Did you buy the one from Robert in Oceanside? I really like that one. I prefer the St. Tropez to the Pamplona but I got too good of a deal on the Pamplona and it was only 8 miles from me.

mine is a full face small, and if I jump up and down on the seat, it will fit. this had led to my seat latch being weak and my helmet being unhappy.

I usually stash it in the topcase or hang it on the hook.

I know this isn't exactly helpful but I have a size L 3/4 helmet and it fits just fine in my pet carrier. It's a fairly bulbous one too.

It's a Black Torc 3/4 helmet if anybody needs to look it up for any reason.

Did I just get a bigger pet carrier?!

I think the vast majority of full faces, any size, should fit no problem. I've usually only seen problems with XL and XXL MODULAR helmets where the whole faceshield flips up. Even with the shield down, modular helmets all seem to have a larger shell than regular helmets.

I've fit two different 3/4 helmets (size Large) without any trouble. In fact, mine fits even with a towel in the bottom of the pet carrier. So I don't think you need to go all the way down to half-helmet to find models that fit.

I was able to fit my old non-modular helmet under the seat, but I can't comfortably put a modular in there. Of course, my helmets are XS, so I have that advantage. You might not be able to put a full face XL in there. As others have suggested, you can hang it from the pegs or put it in a topcase instead. I keep mine in the topcase when I'm not riding.

UPDATE: Sorry, I'm talking Blur, not Buddy, but I didnt' think they were all that different-sized helmet bins.

I ride a Buddy 125 and my helmet fits in the pet carrier, no problem, as long as there isn't anything else in it. I wear an AFX full face helmet, size XL.

I got mine from a guy in Vista. I think I got a good deal on it. I paid 1,750 and it had 1850 Miles on it. I found my solution. I had a bicycle U lock that I use to fun through the back end of the scooter and I attach the helmet to that. I plan on storing the helmet indoors mostly, but I don't want to have to carry it around when I'm out running errands or whatever.

The Buddy _does_ have two locking helmet hanger pegs (at the front of the underseat compartment, by the hinge. They work fine with traditional D-ring helmet straps, but those folks with quick release straps are out of luck.

My Z1R Metro 3/4 fits in the 'pet carrier' if and only if I have nothing else in there, which will probably never happen as I keep extra gloves, wind jacket and pants & etc in there.....
The helmet pegs are a most useful feature instead.

I think it is more important to purchase a helmet with protection in mind, not how you want to store it.....

I have an HJC CL-15 full-face helmet that is a size large. It fits in the pet carrier. When I first got my Buddy I used to put my helmet in there, but now I almost always hang it on the D ring hooks. The only time I don't like using the hooks if if it's going to rain.

Buy the helmet to fit your head, not to fit in your Pet carrier. Seriously. It is difficult enough to find a comfortable affordable helmet without keeping that in consideration. You can use the pegs to lock your helmet on your bike if you have a loop on it, or just take it in with you. My husband leaves his helmet sitting on his bike constantly and has never had problem as well. But, if it protects you, fits well, and isn't noisy, I can't see returning it because it doesn't fit in that itty bitty under seat storage area, especially when it is usually the really good helmets that are larger.

There's nothing wrong with looking for one that will do both.
