Modern Buddy

It's not a scooter movie per se (or any other way), but The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is set in India and every scene is overflowing with old scooters and new small motorcycles. Inevitably, someone will try to compare it with Larry Crowne, which isn't really fair, since Marigold Hotel utilizes old-fashioned movie tricks like a script, brilliant acting, and amazing cinematography to make its point.

EDITed because I forgot to add the ModernBuddy connection. At the end of the film, watch out for a scene that's set in front of a sign for a motorbike shop. Can anybody tell me what the connection to MB is? I bet some of you can guess without seeing the movie.

I'm guessing it has something to do with LML!

Ring da bell, Jimmy. We got a winnah! Yeah, there's a long dramatic scene right in front of a hanging sign for a motorbike shop that lists the brands they service including, you guessed it, LML. The last scene of the film has Dame Judi Dench riding away to happiness on the back of what looks to me like a Bajaj. There's a million street bikes in the movie. It's really kind of cool to see all these bikes running around Jaipur, India. There's a lot about Marigold Hotel that is very cool. I highly recommend it, but, be forewarned, there is no CGI, no explosions, no aliens, no vampires, and most regrettably, no final musical scene.

I refuse to watch a movie that uses cheap tricks like a script, brilliant acting, and amazing cinematography to entertain me. I only trust trailer hype and catchy crap like 3D (or 4D or 5E or whatever we're up to nowadays) to make my movie decisions. My popcorn money must be earned!

Marigold is definitely on my list. Was even before I realized there'd be scoots.

He featured prominently in the trailer for That's My Boy. I'm not sure precisely what my wife said about that movie because I don't speak Parseltongue.

I just saw Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and even though the scooters remain in the background for all but the final shot (when __ and ___ ride through Jaipur together), it is without question a scooterrific film. It has a wonderful script, and there is more talent in the eight top-billed actors than in the entire casts of every Adam Sandler movie ever made (even if you count the same actors each time). I'm pretty sure I was the youngest person in the theater, but that just makes me sad for all the youngsters who were instead seeing something else. I was also sad when I realized that everything was turning out alright, because that meant it was The End.

I loved that bit of Hindu-influenced Indian philosophy they wove into it. SPOILER AHEAD - For folks who haven't seen it (and won't), here is the quote TVB is referencing.
