gps tracking your scooter (security)

Post by bimbom »

Something I thought about recently is that any determined thief can steal a scooter. But it is probably unlikely they are looking for hidden gps tracking devices on the scooter.

I was wondering if anyone here uses these, and what the total costs are.

I've looked at LoJack, but honestly I don't like their "closed" system (they report the police who are supposed to take care of everything). I prefer to be able to go online and see where my scooter is.

This one looked promising and is $150 one-time fee:

The above one is probably a simple install b/c it has its own battery (does not need to be rigged to scooter battery). Downside is that it will die at some point, but apparently lasts a while.

The other benefit is a likely discount on your insurance. Any thoughts on this, or suggestions of other devices?

I note the one you reference is designed for an actual cycle and sits in the frame. They also offer one for a motorcycle that hardwires into the battery.

I think the concept is a good idea, but have not found one that is designed for scoots so if anyone has any ideas or links please throw them our way :)

Im not even thinking about insurance savings (although that would be nice), just the peace of mind that one should be able to track their scoot in the event some to#$er decides to take a fancy to it.

Worth investing a few hundred bucks me thinks.

There IS a monthly recurring charge for the SIM card from a cell provider though. So it's not just the $150. I see no benefit over GPS tracking services being sold here in the US with a subscription service.
