Hi folks,
After 2 years in exile in San Antonio (nothing personal about the people, just not my kind of town) I am back in Chicago.
I'm looking for some people to ride, and avoid potholes with.
PM me if you would like to get a group of people together, or just wanna get out in ride.
If there some existing groups, please let me know how to locate them.
Thx,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Welcome back to the Windy City.
The group below is pretty active. I think they meet every sunday for rides and coffee.

Ride over to Lake Geneva Wisconsin this weekend! You'll meet plenty of scooterists at Amerivespa!

Yes, I should be! Alas... I'm not. Sigh. So I expect you all to have a good time for me! Start a game—every time someone says Buddy you have to drink

game.

OMG. I lived in the Western burbs 25 years ago, and the mention of Portillos just made me salivate. A great dog and cold, cold beer....

Everytime I'm in Chi-Town, I try to stop by Portillos and Semitas Puebla. It's not often I get a chance to get up there though.

Hey, Mike!
Our big rally is Slaughterhouse (#18 this year!) over Labor Day Weekend.
slaughterhousechicago.com
we've got the itinerary ALMOST finished, it'll be posted very soon.
Most of the lists I'm aware of are kinda dead, there are a few small cliquey clubs in the city but no big club or regular weekly ride or anything. Try ChiScooterList on Yahoogroups. And get on Scooterworks list, they do rides once in a while.

1 week and two months to go...
All I need to do is find a job, not that hard really...
And an apartment with a garage, now this is really really really hard. At least in my price range and within the city limits...

Mike, maybe you can find a deal at the Cabrini-Green Apts.....can't remember if they have garages, but your scooter should be safe outside.

Cabrini-Green's been torn down for a few years now. Suddenly someone realized that they could charge yuppies a lot of money to live in even shoddier buildings with stainless steel appliances right next to the Loop. Most projects have been replaced with 'scattered site' section-8 housing.
Also, Portillos is fine, but man, are there a lot better places to get a hot dog or beef in Chicago. No one that lives here gets excited about Portillos, I'd rather go to a mom and pop place that doesn't look like an Al Capone TGI Fridays. : ) Even downtown, there are still places where you can get two dogs, hand-cut fries and a drink for $5, which is the cost of one hot dog at Portillos.

lets add White Castles to the list too....no Chicago soul food to be found here...Portillo's, White Castles, Browns chicken, Salerno's pizza, Maxwell Street Pierogi's...love to hang out on the downtown sidewalks with a cocktail in hand

If you are in Chicago you HAVE to go to Hot Doug's!

Illnoise beat me to it. When I left the city there was only two building of Cabrini left, and one of them didn't have any walls any more.
Hell, I think those row houses that are in the place of Cabrini have garages. Now how do I qualify for section 8
As for hot dogs, if you can't find a good one in the Chi, then you are not looking.
Portillo's is like Giordano's, sure there are way better pizzas in Chicago, but that is the one people recognize.
HotDoug's is a great place if you want a "Good" hotdog, or one that you might not have ever had before (ostrich, lamb, foie gras). it's not the best place to get a classic Vienna Beef Chicago Dog.

cool...hot dougs are now on the top of my list for a "dog".....the folks down here brag over the mushy NY sabrett hot dogs...some of the barbarians here put mayo or tartar sauce on them.....makes me gag

Hey Mike,
Nice meeting you over the Ameri-weekend, and I hope that you got back in fine shape. We didn't make it back to Detroit until after midnight, but made it back in one piece. Don't forget our rally - the Motor City Shakedown on the first weekend in August -

Monamibuddy, pug buddy and I drinking in the parking lot:
Arrrgh! My former Chicagoan friends were pushing me to go here but it was too far from where I was staying. Next time.
I still managed to eat very, very well while in town. Not so good was the Billy Goat Tavern "Cheezborger." My friend who brought us there said, "I didn't say it was a
good cheeseburger, I said it was a
famous cheeseburger." (The slightly style bun is kind of good, I guess.)
Good meeting you, too at AV, Maximus53!
And rippinyarn, too.
And a bunch of other misfits.

on Portillos. There are so many good dogs places around (similar to the pizza joints) that most go undiscovered and the well known places are always over-hyped.

Thumbs down ... WAY DOWN on White Castle. I eat them about once a year just because I forget how bad they are. And they aren't even cheap anymore. Maybe I just overdosed on them when I was younger. There was a time when that was about the only late night place to eat after a long night of drinking.

Ron,
Appreciate the jump. ...that's what you get for trying to relive your youth drinking in the parking lot the night before.
All's well that ends well.
I will defo try to make it out for the Shakedown if time, and my finance permit.
Great meeting you, and thanks again,
Mike
