Modern Buddy

So I pull my scooter out today and put it on the sidestand in my driveway. Go into the garage to get my jacket and the stand sunk into the blacktop and the scooter fell over. Broke the left brake lever and scratched up the left side. I feel stupid.

Cut a nice piece of plywood to put under your center stand, that will teach that blacktop.

And if plywood isn't fashionable enough for you, Whitehorse Gear sells one in different colors. They call it a "kickstand foot."

I got a flat plastic puck when I completed MSF. Crushed cans work in a pinch!

They are lightweight, very thin, and very sturdy....and if you buy a pack of them and some smart alec swipes one, you have extras.

I use stoneware coasters. They are pretty inexpensive, comes in a set of 4 and you can get them in whatever style you want.

Yeah...... it happens.

I keep a couple flattened coffee cans in my pet carrier.

Oh no. Sorry. Saw someone's motorcycle fall over in the parking lot because the best made the surface soft. Side stands and extreme heat don't mix. Actually, when it is as hot as its been... Nothing really mixes.

Was gonna say the same thing. I guess that must be a rite of passage. New asphalt is notorious for that. I've found and used just about anything flat to give my sidestands a wider foot. I also don't trust centerstands in the same situation. On my bike, the foot on the left side is quite long but the right "foot" is pretty small. I notice the Stella has pretty small feet as well. I guess for those you would need a puck for both sides.

cover plates for electric boxes too. Cheap at Lowes.

No one has shown us a picture of the red neck kick stand pad, a flat beer can.

Old tupperware lids here. Asphalt in Arizona doesn't last long due to the heat. Most everything here is concrete.

Pressed cardboard coasters. You know, like the ones they put under your beer at the local pub. I bought a pack of a hundred for around a $1.99 at my area's World of Values. I carry a few in the bin and if I forget to pick one up when I pull out, no big deal, bio-degradable! I stack a couple together if the ground is wet or really soft. So, anyone ever heard of "Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve"?

I went out one night, here in St. Louis, and had a hard time getting it to move. I gave it a push and it broke free, but this was left behind. The stand was undamaged... the road? Not so much.

do buddies have center stands? these tip over stories scared me to the point of learning how to use my center stand... also the fact that gusts of thirty mph are common this summer around here.

Guy at work with an R1 has a small metal plate under his kickstand. Nothing fancy, looks like a metal coaster basically. Not sure if it was something he bought or fabricated, never looked up close just in passing by. A motorcycle was stolen at work not long ago and the consensus was that it was an inside job, so I'm sure as hell not getting too close to any of the bikes.

Yes. Buddies have center stands. The only time I use the side stand is to open or close the gate on my way in and out. Otherwise I don't trust it. Don't be intimidated by the center stand. It's easy to use on the Buddy. Once I learned the trick it's not even bad on my much heavier Vespa. If you have a lot of wind you definitely want to use the center stand.
