Modern Buddy

A week into owning my buddy I've noticed this fluid on the back rear tire, only on the side against the brake/transmission....anyone have a clue what this could be? I just recently took the rims off to plasti-dip them black. Between painting coats I was doing other things and I checked the outer seal and it looked perfectly OK. Not quite sure what it could be, possibly I overfilled it but it seems like there's always a fresh amount on there (I check about once a week) Any ideas?

I did strip the trans bolt but had that fixed, plus the way my buddy sits overnight I have it on the side kickstand leaning over, so if it was the trans bolt it should go straight to the ground. I have felt the bolt to make sure and its not wet at all.

how much gear oil did u refill with it's only 90cc or something like that diffently looks like a blown seal

IIRC, if you overfill your gear oil this can happen.

Most likely a blown seal then, I put in about 100cc, really not that much over but its done this since ive owned it, the amount seems to stay the same (considering how thick gear oil is) but I cleaned the rim and tire before painting and after riding it home (30 minutes of 55mph) I checked the rims and the plastidip held up but saw this morning the rear tire with that oil trace again.

Yes, overfilling the gear oil can blow the seal and result in an oil leak that spews oil very similar to your photo. If you want to be certain you haven't accidentally overfilled, drain your gear oil and refill with just under 90cc (not all the oil comes out when drained so you have to allow for that and put in slightly less than 90cc. 80 or 85cc should be OK). See if that helps.

I agree with others. Could be just overfill.
Possibly a blown seal.

I've got the same problem now on my Buddy 125. I changed out the gear oil last year and put in the prescribed 90cc. I didn't have any problems until a recent ride. It's all over the side of the tire and the wheel. The drain plug is tight (and not leaking) so it's coming from somewhere else.

Are we talking about the seal on the inside of the tranny? I've got fewer than 2,000 miles on the bike and wonder why the seal would have "blown." Since I'm going on a long ride tomorrow, I've put a lot more oil in there now (until it starts to run out the fill hole), which is creating a bigger mess. But I don't want the sucker to run dry, either, at least until I can get in to the shop with it.

What's involved in changing the seal?

If you put in 90cc it's likely you overfilled. When draining the gear oil there is always some that remains. You don't ever get it all out. To be totally accurate you need to measure what oil comes out and only put that much back in. Or at worst only put 85cc back in as that should come out to close to 90cc all totaled.

Did you have the proper scheduled 500 mile maintenance?

If it's a result of overfilling, wouldn't I have noticed the problem last year? This is just starting now, and I haven't added a drop in the meantime. That's what's making me think I might have damaged a seal or something.
