My stupid back is all spasm-ed up so I haven't been able to ride for a few days. I hope to make it!

Dunno if there's any other riders on the board except maybe Miah, who will be going.

Velobuff will meet us at our destination if he is in town.

Some people wanted to go the back route up to Flagstaff and back down, but with a completely unknown quantity of human beings going, I'm just going to play it safe and lead us to Boulder and back.

Hope your back feels better! if nothing else come say hi in the truck before we leave!

Well, just got back from the ride!
Man, it was fantastic.
There were 8 folks and 7 scooters.
We met at Sportique in Denver and then rode up to the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder for some cupcakes and food at Tea and Cakes. After that, we just started makin' stuff up as to where we were going.
We ended up riding up Canyon to Nederland where it was a little cloudy and much, much cooler than Denver. We stopped for gas and then ran out the back of town into the hills past the turn off for Eldora Ski Area.
The group stopped for lunch at another restaurant and Scooterboi and I peeled off to head home.
Scooterboi and I stayed together all the way down the twisties of highway 72 East; just lovin' the ride!
The ride down was just unbelievable. I highly recommend taking highway 72 down the mountains out of Nederland. The speed limits are completely within reason because it's so twisty!


In all, I rode 108 miles!

we did the same except went kipling/wadsworth 38th home.

It was definitely a worthy trip! I'm still amazed by what you can do on a 125cc scooter.

Nice roads, up in the foothills. Color me jealous. Is Rocky Flats still in business? I used to live just east of there a couple decades ago.

It's now mostly a wildlife refuge. Cleanup has been intense.

True story: We moved into a house at 105th and Simms in Aug of '85. A few months later our neighbor moved in, happy to have found this place - especially, she said, since it wasn't near the Arsenal or one of the other Superfund sites in the Denver area; then proceeded to ask us about the glow of lights over the hill to the west! Uh, Rocky Flats, we said.

This ride sounds awesome and I'm sorry I missed it. I'm not much of a group rider (mostly due to not being available to go on them) but this sounds like exactly the kind of ride I am itching to do around here. I've not ridden anywhere too far away as my rear tire is in need of a change. Finally ordered one and maybe can do something like this in August! Thanks for posting your route, Tocsik!

This was my first group ride ever (yep, 28,000 miles and 4 years later) and 7 bikes was perfect.
I'm up for a repeat in August! Just have to time it right. My twins will be moving in to apartments in Ft. Collins and Boulder for their Sophomore years and the youngest moving in to his dorm for Freshman year. Scooter gas is all I can afford!
It would have to be the first or last weekend in August for me but September is some of the best riding weather, too.

I was out of town but if anyone's up near boulder and I'm around I'd love to play!

I made a Facebook group called boulder scooterists for anyone interested in riding from boulder county.

The Denver rides are cool & fun but unless you have a 250, it's hard to get down there in a reasonable period of time.

We've been mostly leaving from downtown boulder & going to Louisville area on 45 mph roads with our 250 & 125 for brunch on Sundays.

I'm thinking of making a run up the canyon to Nederland again Sunday.
I'm not positive yet, though. It would need to be in the morning to beat the heat; it'll be 93 by noon.
Would be nice to ride and let the mind settle out after the events of today.

I would love to join you on either the boulder group or the nederland run. I've made the estes run before, and just ran into boulder this week for my first trip on the diagonal. Sunday morning works great for me.

There are a TON of people here and on ModernVespa up there, such as Nigelthefish and Witch, plus other friends. I know Pete at the Boulder sportique has tried several times for a small 'boulder riders' club up there, but with the transitional student base, it doesn't stick. If interested you guys should meet up with him some Sat, he'd probably be excited now that business is up.

That said we are making a ride to Mt Evans early tomorrow. Not quite where you guys wanted to go though. Maybe dueling rides!

sadly, Sunday morning is my best chance to do a group ride. i suspect your mt Evans ride is a bit too south for me.

We're gonna ride to brunch tomorrow AM from Boulder to the Crane Hollow Cafe in Hygeine and back to Boulder.

I have only ridden part of this route and I'm guessing it's fine for 125+ cc's but it's all back roads with road cyclists and don't have really any cars so whateves!

We'll leave the Shell station (Google Circle K near Broadway & Elder) at 9:20 AM (about Point A on the map).

I will see you there for 920 my phone doesn't seem to have any luck opening the route, but i am pretty familiar with most roads into town. Great choice for breakfast!

Yeah, my iPhone & iPad don't seem to open it because it tries to open it in the maps.app rather than safari.

I don't know most of the roads but from riding some of them they all seem to be country roads with road cyclists for the most part and not many cars.

The part around boulder resevoir is hard packed dirt over packed gravel - we've ridden that part before.

I'm sure there will be some stops where well be asking ourselves if we missed the turn.

oh, around the reservoir? i rode that road on the way to take my driving license. i prayed for pavement, it was frightening on street tires as a newbie! i am sure it was anxiety from the pending test.

Yeah, the road that runs north/south to the west of the reservoir - 51st & 55th st. If its even remotely squirrelly we'll circumvent.

My gf who's coming with us is a novice rider and had no probs going north to south (downhill) on that road. I figure it's good practice since some county roads that you're bound to go on on other rides are packed dirt, too.

1/2 the reason for our Sunday brunch rides is to keep up my gf's skills cause she doesn't ride nearly everyday like I do
