Modern Buddy

I have the Dr Pully set from Buggy Parts NW thst came with the Dr Pully variator, 12g sliders, and the 1500rpm clutch spring. I installed the sliders and variator but not the spring cause I dont realky know what it is supposed to do. Could someone enlighten me? Also, whats the stock spring?

The main spring in the clutch (or contra spring) is one of the factors that lets the clutch spin while the engine runs without actually engaging the clutch shoes.
When you rev the motor, this spins the clutch and the centrifugal force engages the clutch on the pulley.
If you replace the stock spring with the 1500 rpm spring, you are increasing the RPM's it takes to engage the clutch by 1500 over stock. This gives you a better take-off without sacrificing top end. Keep in mind your motor will be revving higher before the clutch engages.
I run the 1500 spring in addition to the 12g sliders and it woks well for me. YMMV.

Thanks for sharing that link, now I can actually comprehend alot of the stuff you guys talk about on here! And just to clarify, since the contra springs and the small clutch springs are not doing anything with the air/fuel mixture or intake, there would be no need to have to mess around with rejetting correct?

How ironic that I got the parts from Buggy Parts NW and didn't see that great page! I saw the awesome tutorial for installation and that guided me through the process and I took it for a spin tonight...runs great! I sure do appreciate it when the fine folks on this forum help a guy out when he hits a wall.

So did you notice a performance difference? Can you quantify it for us?

Easy way to remove/reinstall the nut on the clutch/pulley assembly (after breaking the nut loose):

Well, I don't know as if I could quantify the difference. But, the acceleration is much smoother throughout. I think that's a result of the sliders but from what I've read that's debatable. I was certainly faster off the line and little bursts of throttle while at cruising speed seemed to make the scoot react faster the it had before. Again, from what I've been told, that's the spring talking. Now, I don't know how much of this is psychosomatic since this was my first real ride of the year. Also, with the new Prima pipe everything seemed faster and vroomier. So, that's my experience and as always, YMMV.

BTW, that method of taking the nut off the clutch looks sweet! Wish I had seen that before...had I only researched!

did you order the yellow NCY 1500rpm clutch springs? I replaced my stock with an NCY clutch for a Buddy 125 from scooterworks, and threw in the clutch springs (yellow 1500s), but they looked very loose fitting and didn't feel easy about them. Is this normal? I still have them in the original package, the part number is 1200-1024. I hope those were the right ones, I ordered it by phone and that's what the guy suggested (no names).

Sorry for the delay, just saw your question. I did not order the clutch springs, i was a little intimidated by the process. So, I can't speak to those.
