Modern Buddy

I was changing my oil today, something that I've done since I bought the Buddy, and for whatever reason the bolt decided to go soft and strip. Now I can't get it off to drain my oil. I don't want to take it to the shop because they'll ask for something stupid in regards to service fees.

So...I have two questions.
1 - Where can I order a new bolt?
2 - How the hell do I get the original one off? What tools will be needed? I used a 17mm socket wrench and with one turn it was toast.

If you mean the outside of the hex head is stripped, then you can get it off with a pair of vise grip pliers.
If that doesn't work, there are some wrenches and sockets made specifically for removing bolts with stripped heads.

You can get a new bolt at most scooter shops or online at Scooterworks.com, scooterloungeonline or many other estores.

In the future, be sure you have a 6 point socket or combination wrench instead of a 12-point.

Yea meant the hex head. I'll got get a set of vice grips and thanks for the advice!

you tighten it to much, use a torque wrench ,or use a oil
extractor suck out the oil through the fill hole. or large
syringe with tubing to suck out oil ,next time

2) Boyfriend wound up using brute force to get what was left off. Leverage is your friend. I continued to weed.

Makes changing your oil a multi-day process...just what ya wanted, eh?

This part can not be stressed enough.

No need to do this- there is another bolt on the left side of the engine that will drain the oil just fine. It's actually a little bit easier to use because you don't have to figure out how to wedge a pan underneath. You can just tip the scooter a little and it will all flow out.

Still, removing the bottom one to check the screen is necessary when you change the oil.

I'm almost stripped on mine as well. Maybe I should be proactive and just order a new one in advance the next time I need scooter parts. As for a pan, sorry to hijack this thread, but I find that those restaurant "to go" plastic containers work great for catching the oil. Also the foil pans for making homemade banana bread.
