Warranty Question

Well, I am having more difficulty than I thought I would removing the variator sleeve and backplate off. My question is how does the warrenty work, I have never had a warranty on anything before. Do I pay for the work that needs to be done, part or all? I have documented all the work (maintanance) I have done on the scooter.
I also noticed a few Buddy owners from the K.C area on the map, does anyone have any personal dealings with Scooter World?

Since no one else is going to bite, I'll give this a shot. The big caveat is, I've never had a Buddy under warranty since both of the Buddy's I've purchased were used. However, after reading here for quite some time and also with general knowledge of warranties, here's my best guess.

You having done work on it yourself might not be in your favor. Most especially if you did the first service yourself. Hopefully, if you did, you followed all of the normal procedures and have documentation. So assuming that's the case, and assuming that the issue was not caused by you, if it's deemed to be covered under warranty, you should pay nothing. To that end, you might want to put it all back together and take it in as a fresh issue. If you tell them you've messed with it, your chances of getting warranty coverage diminish greatly.

Give Mike or Ray a call. I know everyone there personally. They have been nothing outside of fantastic on all the work I have had done. On a side note... I have never had a single warranty issue so I don't know how well those work.

I'm still well within warranty period so I limit my wrenching to oil/filter changes and installation of accessories (shop did FULL first service)...

Scooter World is a great place. Have bought three scooters from them.

I had warranty work done on my 2007 Buddy when the stator went bad in 09 (I had 3 months left). Took it to Scooter World (great bunch of guys), they fixed it, no charge. All I did was sign the paperwork saying that they did the work.

Scooter World did the first full service but from that point on (almost 2 yrs) I had been doing all of the oil changes.

It's very unlikely this will be a warranty claim. If you had done any transmission maintenance yourself and had non-stock rollers or sliders, chances are, it's not covered. The warranty covers defects in workmanship and parts. Do you think the part itself is defective?

IF the claim is submitted and accepted, the warranty covers parts and labor.

FYI, if your scooter is still under warranty why not let the scooter shop do the work? I understand about the oil changes (since I do my own) but why even mess with all that other stuff? Were you trying to mod?

In response to ericalm, I haven't upgraded any parts, only replaced worn items (rollers and belt).
In response to iMoses, I live in the far S.E. part of KS and do not have access to a vehicle that can transport the scooter to Overland Park.

I wasn't trying to do mods just routine maintanance, when I change the oil I clean the cvt (inspecting the rollers and belt).
I finally got the sleeve off using a 3-jaw gear puller, after cleaning the rust I tried to put the sleeve back on, however it will not slide over the shaft so I need to get a new one. I know it is the sleeve and not the shaft because it will slide about 3/4 of the way on and then stop, but when I flip it around it will not even go on the shaft.

So in the meantime my scoot is sidelined :(

If water got into the CVT and caused the rust, it's highly unlikely this is a warranty issue unless someone can fins a big hole or leak or something.

This might be one good reason for the CVT cover gasket that falls apart rather easily after a removing the cover a couple of times.
