Want some info on what to do with my 50cc honda

Post by merlin »

Ive got this honda elite 50cc scooter that i learned to ride on. i dont watn to get rid of it because my grandpa gave it to me, but i do want to do something crazy with it.

the ideas that ive had were to put a 125cc race type of engine. i also thought about a 150 with a turbo. or trying to stuff a 250 under the scooter and seeing what happens.

anyone got any good ideas or any great reference to where i could find more information or cheap parts.

Is it a Honda Met? You could always mount rockets on it. From the man who brought us the rocket powered VW Beetle:

The reason why you don't hear much about turbocharging small engines is that turbochargers are driven by the flow of exhaust gases from the motor and, on a single cylinder motor, the flow of exhaust gases is more like a train of pulses than the smooth flow of exhaust gasses from a 4/6/8 cylinder motor. It's the same reason why you don't hear a lot about turbos on BMW twins and Harleys, either.

That leaves the supercharger. There is a supercharged scooter from Peugeot, but it's not available in the USA. You can try rolling your own, but others have tried it and I'm not aware of any success stories. I think the problem has been that it's just too expensive for most folks to develop. There was a guy who designed a Supercharger to work with the Vespa GT200, but it was cost prohibitive to produce, so he didn't do it.

The most helpful advice I can give you, and I don't recommend this for folks with weak stomachs or small children, is to go ask on the ScooterBBS. There is a guy there named Brooke who is a walking encyclopedia of small-displacement scooter hot-rodding. See if you can get a reply from him on what can reasonably be done with your scoot. As far as I'm concerned, whatever he says, goes. Tell him I said, Hi.

Good luck.

ive heard of the Peugeot supercharged scoot, but u thought it would be to hard to try to create a centrifugal supercharger backed and pulley system on the scoot since there is no real place to hoot it to the crank shaft. turbo i thought might be easier to work with if you had a clutch scooter because the turbo spool would be horrendous.

i think swapping a bigger motor would be my best bet, and cheaper than any of my other projects i have around here.

anyone know of any good online junkyards for scooters?
