Dealer repair options - parts on back-order

So I bought my Buddy 170i in June and wrecked it on some streetcar tracks in early August. It's been at the dealer's ever since because apparently the fork assembly is on back-order (and freaking $375 no less!) . So I noticed that jonlink is selling the stock forks on his 170i and wondering if the dealer would accept them if I were to buy them and just use those instead of brand new ones? Or does it only come as a package where the dealer would need the other parts besides the forks themselves? And I trust my dealer for the most part, but I'm wondering if there's a chance they might want to try and refuse used forks since they wouldn't be making any $ off of them. Thoughts/opinions?

Depends on the dealer.

When I ran a service department, if in the same predicament of back ordered parts keeping us from completing a repair......I think in this case I'd be somewhat open minded.

I would, however, expect forks to be in almost new condition.

Ask your repair shop......tell them you can get these parts and if acceptable, what financial arrangement can be made.
As a customer, a reduction for the new fork price and sales tax should be acceptable.
Obviously, labor stays the same....new fork, used fork, same labor.

Just ask......costs nothing and the shop can get the job done and paid for.

You get the bike back sooner.

Who is paying for the repair.......if insurance, what is your deductable?

thanks for the info. my insurance is covering most of it. My deductible is $250.

Well then, by supplying the forks you will have reduced the dealers bill by the deductable......there is no financial loss to the dealer beyond the margin for the forks.
