Modern Buddy

I've got a 4-month old Buddy 50cc. Still only 250 miles. Every time I take it out I find it hard to start when the engine is warm. Battery is fine. The ignition cranks well but the engine doesn't catch. Same with the kick start. When cold, starts right up either with ignition or kick start. When I told the dealer in Miami (am now in Seattle) he said it should be de-restricted and the issue would go away. Is de-restricting the only option to my problem? Do others have the same issue?

I have that same issue, and derestricting doesn't make it go away. Give 1 or 2 quick twist(s) of the throttle for warm start ups, hasn't failed me yet.

I always have to twist the throttle to get it to start. I thought this was "normal" is it?

Thanks. So give it a couple of twists while trying to start or prior? I don't want him to lurch forward if it starts while giving the throttle gas....

I twist as I'm starting. I have the bike on the "big stand" not the side "kick stand" most of the time or I'm just sitting on it. However, you should not have to give it enough throttle that it will take off on you. Hope this helps.

You have to have a brake (front or rear) applied before the electric start will work, so lurching shouldn't be an issue. Rear brake (left handle) makes more sense & much easier to use while starting.
Kickstart---no brake necessary (because it's on the center stand with,,,,hopefully,,,the rear wheel off the ground).
FWIW, I occasionally have the same thing happen & with a quick twist or two
she starts right up.
